Please for the love of the prophets!! Change the loading screens!

zasz#8071 zasz Member Posts: 193 Arc User
Please! Please! Please! Please! Please! Please! Please! Please! Please! With a risian cherry on top!

Change warp out/in, beam out/in and similar cinematic like sequences to not hide our cursor!
Change the loading screen so it continues once its done loading if we do things on our second screens!

Or make it optional. Just make it stop please. Its a terrible "feature". Its so bad that I caught myself jumping back to the game before the loading screen is done to continue in other games where this terrible "feature" doesnt even exist.

    Vague clickbait thread title.

They were going to do this just because you demanded it, but you ignored the forum rules so now they're going to add a second load screen and double up the warp out sequence.

    You monster.

And what do you suppose the game should "continue" to do by itself after the loading screen, if you're not there to play it?

I suppose the game should not require manual input to continue. Im there. I dont stare at loading screens to wait until they are done. Especially here when the loading times are random. Im doing something on the other screen in the meantime.

Well, you can only wait to see what they do with performance now they can focus on the 64 Bit versions.....but loading screens aren't going to go away, especially as the client needs to talk to the servers, in particular when setting up a new instance at the server end, which is the main cause of a delay in loading.

Im not talking about removing loading screens. That would be absurd. Im talking about the fact that after the loading is done and the game is not in focus the loading screen stays there until the game is back in focus and an additional key is pressed. So the instance is already set up, the player just cant go through the cinematic that eats the cursor. The delay in loading happens in EVERY other game automatically like it should be.

So you're complaining about having to punch a key when you get back to your game?

So for saving a couple of seconds, you're demanding the Dev's work around the issue just for you?? I don't see what the issue is quite frankly. Just because it doesn't happen in another game, doesn't mean it's possible in this one. Apples and pears my friend.

    And baiting the Mod.....oh dear!

A lot of older games use the press any key thing to generate a random seed number, that is probably what they are doing here. It sounds so simple to get rid of it and do something else, but that can be deceiving. Why change it and probably have to chase down a new set of bugs when it is not a problem for most players?

If you're on another screen doing something else, then you are away from your game while it's loading up. You alt-tab away from the game to do something else. Therefore when the game loads up, you get the 'press any key' because you tabbed away from the game.

Whether or not you are actually away from the game, when you use your second screen, your OS thinks you are. It is the same as alt-tabbing, you are no longer in the game because it is no longer your focus

Honestly the game goes straight to the next map if you wait out the loading screen, only times I've seen the "please press a key" message is when I've tabbed out.

pressing a key to make sure you don't end up "thrown to the sharks" by the game loading you into combat while your AFK is hardly a big price to pay.

Did I mention that Im using alt-tab to switch screens? Do you even understand how a multi monitor setup works? Or windowed fullscreen mode?

Which is the definition of trolling considering what he wrote (like he does all the time) based on your dishonest question. Pointing out how inefficient and pointless a specific feature is isnt "complaining".

Seriously people. READ IT AGAIN because you people evidently dont understand the problem.

So your answer to people trying to help is to insult their intelligence.

I do know how multi monitors work because I had dual monitors before one of them quit on me.

So let me try this again. Whenever you move your mouse over to your second screen and click something else, like a browser or whatever, you do move away from your game. So when you go back to your other monitor where your game is, the loading screen is still there. It's how it works whether you alt-tab or not. If you click something else while the game is running, that becomes the computer's focus instead of the game.

And really, you're the only person in the almost ten years the game has been running to complain about this, That I know of.

Add to that, I don't think multi-screens were in the Dev's minds back when the engine was being created.......and the game doesn't like alt-tabbing that much.

    All true.

Windows has only one "focus" and "active application" at a time. When you change focus to another application or alt tab, the current application is sent messages saying it has lost focus and is no longer the active app. Even if you have 4 monitors, there is still only 1 focus, 1 active app.

(Other applications can still be running in the background, and they can even use "hooks" to intercept hot keys, but they are still not the one true active app.)

I sometimes run LOTRO on my Laptop monitor when I run STO on the attached monitor. If I do something on the LOTRO screen I need to click twice over on the STO to do something there. The first to bring focus back to that monitor and the second to do it.

I can freely move my mouse between screens except when STO captures focus for a cut scene, Warp out, or whatever. It won't let me move the cursor to the other screen until it releases the focus.

When you have multiple screens, and you leave the primary screen and click someplace else, you're taking focus from the active task. It is functionally exactly the same as a single screen user hitting alt-tab and is interpreted by windows in the exact same way. If you're going to bash on someone for not understanding something, make sure you understand it yourself. The game simply requires input when it's not the currently focused task. Rather the focus was shifted by a click someplace else, or hitting alt-tab is functionally irrelevant.

While I can see how this would be a slight annoyance to multi monitor users, it's not such a huge issue that it requires all this drama. There is no reason you can't just politely request a change to the feature if it bothers you. I think you'll find on this board that if you make a calm and civil request, the replies you get are also going to be calm and civil. If you come here and blow up over nothing and be all dramatic about everything.. well.. to use a South Park Meme..

    1445962493863.png

As a mostly single monitor user, I myself don't really care if this feature is changed or not, but I suspect it's probably not on the list of things to be changed. It would be a reasonable solution to have this feature be a toggle in options for those with multiple screens though, that seems fair.

    Insert witty signature line here.
