Please allow selecting quantity when crafting Superior (purple/very-rare) tech upgrades (Superior Beam upgrade, Superior Ground upgrade, Superior Cannon upgrade, etc).
When upgrading a weapon to lvl 15 and to quality UR or Epic, depending on RNG it may take 100 Superior upgrades to fully upgrade the weapon. Currently, you can only craft these one at a time (if the crafting crit's, you get back 2). Thus making the 1000's of upgrades needed to fully upgrade a ship is a massive time sink and also very tedious/monotonous.
Some of the subcomponents used in the upgrades have a slider bar in crafting menu that lets you indicate you want to make 5 at a time. Why cant we do that for the Superior upgrades, allow 5 (or even more!) to be selected at a time. The amount of crafting materials would be the same, and the cost to finish them instantly could also be the same....you mainly just save user time wasted with thousands of un-necessary clicks.
Lol, you actually use Superiors? I only use Phoenix, Ultimate, Omega, and Rom Rep upgrades.
Those are better choices, though I will use Superiors to "top off" gear that is already Epic rarity to reach Mark XV. If it only needs 1-2 Superiors worth of points then using a Phoenix wastes 2,000-3,000 dil.
Crafted kit modules can't reach Epic, so if they are already UR then there is also no value in adding more than the bare minimum points needed to reach Mark XV.
Also, if someone missed the Anniversary and last Phoenix event they might not have any, and they might also have run out.
Yes, please! This suggestion gets my seal of approval.

I am curious, but not so curious that I want to get in an argument over it with you so no need to answer if you don’t want to:
In forum situations like this one, when somebody makes a suboptimal choice or has new idea, you have a habit of reacting well… emotionally with laughter. Could be that you are simply are an emotional guy, which is fine, but I must admit that it comes off as if you are mocking those players then.
Why? Would it not be more productive, not to mention polite, to just explain the ups and downs of the respective calls or out of the box ideas then?

Well, I'll grant on rereading it has more snark than intended. It was meant as mild teasing at best. I like to laugh, I find humor in many things, even my own mistakes, I laughed my self silly when my uncle jumped on a stump to discover that it was in fact just a log, at least until he showed me his broken arm. I still laugh thinking about the way he tumbled.
I understand. It's ok. Thank you for clarifying.

This is for a new character started in past few weeks. During that time there have been no phoenix box event from which to obtain new phoenix upgrades (and my other 10 characters already used up the ones I had saved).
There have also been no key-20-packs (contain ultimate upgrade) in past few weeks, plus buying 20 keys in order to get an ultimate upgrade for a single weapon/item is a bit of overkill.
There has also been no Omega event recently to get those upgrades. Plus, those upgrades are not high volume but they give 4x quality chance plus more upgrade points than superiors, so are best suited for taking a mk II item and maximizing the chance to get it to Epic quality , but you will still need Superior or other type upgrades to finish it off to mark XV if you don't have 100-200 phoenix upgrades. I would also not waste using an omega on rep gear that already starts out at mx xiii since the omega will only get you 1 level or less, and not significantly affect quality improvement chance...it would be wasteful to use omega to take an item from mk xiii to xiv.
The Romulan upgrades, other than the couple you get awarded when starting out, are the result of finishing 10 ranks of Romulan Admiralty. That takes 9-10 days to finish each time, getting awarded 2 or 4 (I forget which). 2 or 4 rom upgrades over a period of 10 days is not going to cut it when you want to upgrade 7-8 weapon slots and other gear to mx xv epic.
Thus, in general, unless someone saved up 100-200 phoenix upgrades and is only focusing on just 1 or 2 characters instead of multiple, or unless they don't mind spending hundreds of $$ worth of zen to buy ultimate upgrades, you are going to need to use Superior tech upgrades to finish off a lot of your equipment. And for any crafter trying to make mass quantities of superior upgrades for that purpose it would help a lot if we could select to make 5 vs 1 with each crafting request.
It is somewhat ridiculous that STO has not learned the lessons Henry Ford did about mass production. When you mass produce, times to produce are shortened. Here if you make 5 of something it takes exactly 5 times the amount as one.

Except there is breakage.
Right now, you can run 6 projects and each one takes 15 minutes to complete (for a total of 12 with crits). In theory, that means you could run this project 4 times in one hour and make 48 upgrades.
In practice, you're not going to collect and slot the projects with that level of efficiency, so to get the 48 upgrades it would take a while longer. Add in actual time in game and you're probably not going to get much more than 48 in an average daily play session if you include times times you are in the middle of a RTF and can't stop to collect and slot (unless you're spending a lot more than an hour per day playing on a single alt).
However, if you can slot it and forget it, your only real limit is research and development materials and components.
You could easily craft hundreds of, if not a thousand, upgrades in an overnight process. Multiply that by setting projects on multiple alts each with 6 slots (and no additional R&D doff requirement) and you have thousands of upgrades over night.
Since there is a very active market for upgrades on the exchange, it would go crazy with the flood of upgrades. This change would alter a huge portion of the entire STO in-game economy - impacting EC prices for everything, and subsequently dil and Zen, potentially costing Cryptic real world money.
I don't think you could adequately limit the max number sufficiently NOT to flood the market. You can't add a quantity slider to this without causing that problem.
I hate waste - so if I only need a small amount of points to the next 'level' I will use the regular purple or even blue or green upgrades. And of course for stuff I really don't care if quality goes up like bridge officer stuff.
