I have a lvl 65 player whose seems to have a issue with melee attack. This just started in last few weeks was not there from start. Seems to be just my lvl 65 does not happen on other players. Once I target some thing friend or foe melee starts auto, I cannot walk move etc, Once I clear target it stops. I have tried reset defaults etc but since it only happens on one not a setup or install issue. I have even removed melee from control bar but still happens. Hope someone else has seen this and has a fix, ground combat is almost impossible as a singe team.
Happens randomly for me... but it's usually just a hiccup.
Might be worth looking at your auto-attack settings, and what events stop it. Or just right click the attack so the green border disappears... Of course, it's not per-weapon so it'll turn off on guns too but eh, STOs not got the most modern of UIs.
It does happen from time to time not just melee, but ranged too. A few work arounds I found for this. The first is having my toon repeatadly jump around, works some times but not all the time. Another one is unequip the weapon and then re equip the weapon. Same results as the first. The best work around I have found is switching from the mode you were in to the mode you were not. Example if you are in shooter mode and this happens, once out of combat switch to rpg mode, and then back to shooter mode. It should take care of the problem.
Thanks again I show how little I know was not aware of modes.
Shooter mode is a good idea, but there is too much visual spam and the minimap is too crude in this game to really use it effectively. It is nice that they give the option though.
Not knowing about modes or whatever is unfortunately common since the tutorials are not that great and generally only cover one of several options. For instance, the first time I left STO was because piloting the ships using the WASD method (the only method the tutorial showed at the time) was counterintuitive and as fun as slogging though deep mud.
I came back with some friends early last year and muscle memory from the game I was playing just before the return led to discovering the two-button-down analog steering with the mouse which made a world of difference
Even after being here for a year I still run across things I did not know about.
