Keys bound?!

I bought 49,99 euro worth of zen just now. That went thru just fine. Then I proceeded to the C-store, and bought 50 lock box keys, 10 of which suddenly appear bound-to-account for 7 days. It's one thing to have some sort of fraud protection, flagging the purchase of the Zen, but to flag a C-store purchase, and then even only 10 keys out of 50, that makes no sense whatsoever. And it's certainly no great incentive for me to keep buying zen in the future, I can tell you that. :(

This type of protection is found in many MMOs. Practically, for real-$ purchases there's a cooldown that has to countdown before you can trade the items. Indeed half-flagging makes no sense, probably a specific number was exceeded and therefore the flag applied for the ones exceeding.

Indeed, half-flagging is silly. And a 40 keys only limit? Considering my earlier Zen purchases with them, you'd think they should know by now my money is good. But if they don't want it any more, I'm only too happy to oblige them, and not give them any more of it (sarcasm intended).

Did you purchase through Arc or through Steam or another authorized vendor? If you didn't go through Arc then quite a few of those typically get flagged. Another thing is if you haven't bought zen in awhile, new payment method, new IP as just a few examples. You can always pull up the dilithium exchange to see if you're on a probationary period as it will tell you. It should also tell you when you go to purchase something like the keys. It sucks when you get hit with one but it's better than not having it.

STO is also not the only game to do this. SWTOR also does a similar thing save their's is only 3 days for some of the items.

This happened to me too the other week. It's a shock at first, but I just got over it. I can still sell anything later.

I bought the Zen thru Arc, as usual.

Thing about the Dilithium exchange is, it's not my Zen that's bound, but 10 of the 50 keys I bought with it. Which is so weird. I can understand them flagging a Zen purchase, as RL money is involved. But it's then silly to flag 10 out of my 50 keys I bought from the C-store.

I believe the way it works is the Zen itself gets flagged, but then anything bought with that Zen also gets flagged. It does seem odd, though, that only part of your Zen would get flagged if it was all purchased at one time.

Yeah. I had like 205 Zen left, after buying 5x 10 keys, but even that Zen wasn't bound (as in: I could exchange it for Dilithium just fine). And yes, I bought all 5,8300 Zen (the 49.49 euro package) in one fell swoop.

So, I decided to just open some lock boxes with those 10 keys, as customer service told me they had lifted the alleged probation on my account. Guess what? All items out of it are now 7 days account bound too. You know what, Cryptic, I'm tired of this passive-aggressiveness. You just screwed yourself out of a ship bundle I was going to buy tomorrow.
