Why can Starship Coupon Gift! not be sold on the Exchange? Wouldn’t that make Cryptic more money?

Am I way off or do you think if players could sell Starship Coupon Gift! on the exchange everyone would benefit? Would be easier for buyers to find someone with them. We could sell more of them easier and Cryptic could make more money form the extra ones being brought for ZEN and sold on the exchange. Is there a downside I missed?

Probably. As good as the account security is, and I don't have payment details saved, I for one would be miffed if someone TRIBBLE my account to buy ships to trade them to themselves and make a massive amount of EC.

AFAIK they can be traded between players, just not on the exchange.

There is literally no practical reason for that combination, except as a favor to the trading channels.

Its supposed to be a means to GIFT someone a T6 ship. Not another EC income source for in game Ferengi.
I'm sure everyone's got a friend they wish they could by a C-Store ship for. We never had that capability before. It has nothing to do with "favors to the trading channels" as Cryptic has no connection with them whatsoever. Trade channels are community driven entities.

Cryptic is testing a means to gift a C-Store ship from one player to another player. How players use it is up to the players. If some Ferengi decides to do some scalping to get more ECs, that's on the player. Not Cryptic. The Devs are not All Knowing, godlike entities that forsee all outcomes. They're only human.

It doesn't matter what it's supposed to be, only what it actually is. And what it actually is, is an item that must be traded in chat.

I can absolutely guarantee that if people want to buy them for EC, others will sell them. Just like any other item. That's not even a question. That's not "on" anyone, either. It's the natural order of things.

But the pointless trade restriction that benefits nothing just makes the whole thing more of a hassle for all involved, that's on Cryptic.

Yep. the comic book guys already got more than enough stuff for them to peddle and make billions of EC, the coupon gifts are what they say on the tin.......

I haven't bothered to do the math yet but if I need ECs and I can get more EC per Zen by selling a ship coupon than other methods, sure, that's what I'm going to do, but the people at Cryptic aren't stupid, if this new ship gift coupon was meant to bring in the maximum amount of real money as possible, it would be added to the game in that way but it wasn't (or maybe it was, only the people at Cryptic have access to the numbers to know what sales "method" brings in the most money). By the same token, if they did not want players to be able to make ECs from it at all, I'm sure they could have found a way to make it non tradeable while still allowing a player to "gift" it to another player.

As for me, I have yet to be desperate enough for EC to spend Zen on anything to sell, I probably will however, use some of my saved Stipend and buy my wife (F2P) a T6 ship coupon...
    LTS and loving it.

I was thinking of it more from the other way around. Not to sell to make EC, but to buy for EC. There are lots of ships I wouldn't spend ZEN on, but would buy via a token brought with EC. If tokens where allowed on the exchange and assuming there are others like me then Cryptic would sell more tokens and make more money.

One group of players ends up with more ship and more reasons to plays, Cryptic get more money. Seems like a win for everyone even the middle man player that makes extra EC.

I wouldn't see a problem with players monetizing these. Just like how the Ferasan/Caitian boff tokens, fleet modules, keys, upgrade tokens can all be sold for EC.
