Hologram Boffs

sierra078sierra078 Member Posts: 340 Arc User
I love the Original Series Hologram Boffs but I'm running into an issue with them in areas requiring environmental suits. If I understand correctly Holograms should be immune to environmental damage (vacumn and most gases) but I took them to the Underground Ruins Map on New Romulus and they were fine until I had to revive them, then they started going down from environmental damage. They went down fast too coughing and hacking the whole way. Anyone else get this issue or what? Am I missing something?

They're like any other BOFF, you have to put them in a EV suit for places where one is needed.

I have no idea why. They should be immune to environmental damage, being holograms.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything. :D

My point though is that going into an area where its required they're fine until I have to revive them. Only then do they take environmental damage. It even says under the traits "No respiration".

Environmental damage harming them in places like the Underground Ruins makes a lot more sense than it not damaging them at all. I highly doubt those portable holo-emitters were designed to function in the heat of a Volcano. Same with any other corrosive or extreme heat environments, where they should need the suit like anyone else.

The trait only covers vacuum and gases.

They should, logically, be immune to all damage that didn't hit their mobile emitter. After all, their "body" doesn't actually exist. The Doctor has even mentioned in canon he's invulnerable to phasers. So why aren't they?

Because it's a game and the boffs are meant to be equally balanced.

Also why the breen boff, who already wears an environment suit by default, still has to be given an EV suit item when going into hazards.

They changed that in a patch last year. Breen BOff should not need an EV suit. March 8, 2018 notes.
This is an MMO, not a Star Trek episode simulator. That would make for a terrible game.

It's a bug actually. Hologram boffs are meant to be immune to "environmental" damage, aka any damage that an even suit stops. I heard that they knew about the bug but not 100% sure

Maybe they believe that they are the real thing so much so that they take damage as if they are actual flesh and blood. ;)

Or maybe the Holoemitter is melting in a Volcano so hot the Tholians find it comfortable?
