T6 Vo'Quv Carrier

Its one of the most popular and oldest ships in the KDF side and a personal favorite. Also the only that launch Birds-of-Prey. I am pretty sure a T6 version would be quite successful and the graphical parts of the ship are already there since a T5(U) version and a Mirror T5 version exist meaning it would make its introduction cheaper than that of an average ship. Please consider introducing it for all us carrier captains.

yeah that would be nice, but a zen store ship, dont pull another D7 on us. Or at least make the bloody promo ships account wide unlocks, they already cost a kidney and an eye, at least that way I can use the trait/weapons/hangars across my account.

We will get it as as a crossfaction ship which launches t6 Novas.

I'd buy that for a (30) dollar, even without the T6 Nova frigate pets ;)

Would be nice, only thing I ask is they at least give it a basic cloaking device. I mean we have ships with 8 weapons, two hangars, and battle cloak....so standard cloak wont kill it.

Agreed that it will be really cool. It's just a matter of time really.

Years ago I was in a bird of prey while my friend in a voquv with birds of prey. We were an effective combat unit.

Would be nice to have basic cloak added indeed. A major point of Klingon BoP is to ambush and flank, but having its big obvious mothership around might give any enemy a clue.

Yes back when it was released it was probably the largest ship on KDF so it made sense to have no cloaking but now would be good I believe. Also if we consider the visuals are there - even the visuals with sets and vanities and the flight model etc - what would be left to make it T6 would be make it scaling, boost stats to T6 levels, add consoles slots to reflect being a T6 ship, add a Tier 5 trait and a new console and lastly decide on a specialist sit. I mean its far less work and almost no artwork for it. All artwork would be for trait and console icons only.

I wonder if the ship is simply ignored because Klingon ships have no priority, or the concern is that its one of the launch non-canonical ships (like the Star Cruiser or Deep Space Science Vessel or the Patrol Escort, which also don't have Tier 6 options) and hence Cryptic doesn't feel like they will sell all that well, being non-canonical, and that the differences in quality between launch level models and modern ones would be too jarring (and it would not be economical to try to fix the old models).

The problem is also they dont do surveys...at all.

they could place surveys on which ships people would be interested on(and willing to pay for) and have to pick 3 from all the T5s list that dont have a T6 variant and use that data to their advantage.

Also having devs/CMs play a secret toon each side and "meld" with people without knowing who they are would help them get general opinion of what players need, what problems they face, which ships are popular etc.

But yes just email or client surveys at times would do as well

They know how much people want the Vo'quv, we'll probably get a T6 eventually, the question is just when.

There's no "problem" with there not being a T6 Voquv. Also, it's not being "ignored." T6 has been a thing for almost 5 years now. They were never simply going to release every possible T6 ship at once. They'll continue to release new ships slowly over time so they can milk them for all they're worth. Anything not released inevitably is claimed to be "ignored" or "forgotten." It's just not true. Cryptic needs to have the ability to generate excitement from a new release every so often. So just be patient and eventually you'll "get yours."

I have the T5 on my main KDF character. For an STO original design I think it's a neat starship. I've longed for an art pass to make it at least as nice as the Atrox. Improve the textures. Light up those hanger bays. Toss in the latest hanger/fighter mechanic? I would enjoy a T6 variant on the Vo'Quv.

We are talking about a starship which is exclusive to the KDF player faction. Which, many of us have been aware, has had uneven support over the history of the game. That said, I have to wonder how much influence the new Discovery D7 Flight-Deck Cruiser will have on the KDF faction? I speculate this can help (or hinder) where - on a Developer's whiteboard - our T6 Vo'Quv sits at any given time. Perhaps timing for this request is better this time around?

This is an ongoing call from the player base. Doesn't seem to be having much effect, unfortunately.

But just for grins, have you tried to imagine what the trait should be for tier 5 mastery? The problem is that whatever it is would be transferable to other ships. I'm thinking the Vo'quv needs a unique bonus whatever the tier 5 mastery trait is. It was originally a stand-out for its sheer size. Personally, I'd like to see it have the highest sheer hull mass/strength of any ship in the game, and maybe give it cruiser commands instead of the usual carrier commands. Adding the four weapons slots fore and aft of a typical cruiser might be a bit much though... there is such a thing as game balance. :)

Still, as a Klingon exclusive ship, the Vo'quv tier 5 trait would be restricted to Klingon captains. So, it needs to be something very appropriate for Klingons. Any ideas?

I'm honestly surprised we didn't get a T6 Voquv when we got the T6 Jupiter. It seemed like the logical time to release one. I'm sure we're eventually gonna get one but when? I don't like how all the 2 hangar KDF T6 ships are either lockbox or promo ships.

I think the only T6 KDF with 2 hangars right now are Sarcophagus and Durgath indeed so nothing for T6 carriers in c-store

and even if we add the T5-U that numbers doesnt increase a lot since its the Kar'Fi and Vo'Quv there. Kar'fi is also deserving a T6 version in my opinion

It was the logical time to do it, but they said they didn't have the time to actually do it. I guess other ship artists were busy with other ships.

Maybe they could simply create a Jupiter Variant, say, the "Zeus Carrier" that comes with a Command instead of an Intel seating to release together with a Tier 6 Vo'Quv. (Similar to how we have a Command and Intel Assault Cruiser and a Command and Intel Guardian, though in these cases, the alternate version were special promotional deals). The Jupiter could use an alternate costume, though, maybe at least some alternate nacelles or something like that.

Trait-Wise, ideally the Tier 6 Vo'Quv has a highly desirable trait for many builds, so people will buy it just for the trait alone. It shouldn't be too focused on the Vo'Quv shtick.

I believe the reasoning behind the T5 not having a cloak, at least lore wise, was that they couldn't hide the ships emissions or something due to her size.
Kinda got blown out of the water a bit when the T5 Bortasqu' came out, but even then they played up the size making her easier to detect while under cloak than usual. Maybe they can adapt that for a T6 Vo'Quv so that yea she has a cloak, but her size means its not quite as effective. Unless they want to reverse engineer the Sarco Cloak for a T6 Vo'Quv, citing advances in tech allowed them to adapt the old design for a new ship.

I think a ship of that size would be ok with a normal cloak, not a combat one

Besides Vo'Quv is older so they could communicate it like the KDF engineers with the help of their allies upgraded etc etc. as they did with other ships citing the alliance after the iconian war where allies shared expertise

I was thinking they ought to update the trait that came with the original carrier, the Obelisk. Though that was from a console, not a "mastery" trait. The "Reactive Antiproton Cascade Emitter" console forces a bunch of nearby enemies to attack you, cranks up your damage resistance, and reflects 200 percent of the damage back at the forced attackers. Sort of a "Super Feedback Pulse". It would be very cool for a T6 Vo'quv to be able to do that.

Isn't it canon that Klingon cloaks are the least technologically sophisticated?

It was canon in the TV shows, the game is actually ahead 30 years from the last 24th century TV show, and even then in the battles of DS9 klingon ships could cloak as they wanted, in my personal opinion all cloak should be as battlecloak, its not like it would do any dmg to the existing(non) pvp, and its a bit stupid you cant cloak once you are in combat for ships like raptors, but OK I could accept that as big as it is the voquv cant cloak as it wants. even if there are way bigger ships out there now and technology sure would have progressed heaps in that direction.

What I would be more interested in is the trait, I think the T6 Voquv should have a pet trait as it was the first carrier in-game, and the trait should be focused on frigate pets as the Voquv has iconic Bird of Prey pets.
  • warpangelwarpangel Member Posts: 9,427 Arc User
All the "can't do that in combat" -restrictions are 100% pure game mechanics.

There are canonical situations in which it would be a bad idea to cloak (as seen in Generations, for example), but cloaking would still be physically possible nonetheless.

For that matter, in canon cloaks were easily installable on any ship, even in the field.
