Just right click your character picture/name in the upper left hand corner of the screen and click "change outfit" or something like that.
That only works if you have more than 1 outfit saved, otherwise its only possible to edit your outfit at a tailor at a main hub. And no there is no tailor in any of the ship interiors that I know of.

Well sure, if you want to fully edit your outfit, obviously you have to go to the tailor. The OP only asked how to change outfits though.

The OP asked if it was possible to change outfits on your ship with out going to a tailor, the answer is yes, if you have another outfit saved. if not, then the answer would be no. so the OP didn't ask how to change outfits, but if it was possible to change the outfit. which usually means editing them.

OP, ignore all this convoluted, contradictory and meaningless back and forth between us. If you want to change to a pre-saved outfit, yes, do as I stated above on a ground map. If you want to fully edit outfits, then no, go to a tailor.

Oh my God !! Thank you Salazarraze !! I didn't mean to start an argument. I just didn't think it was possible to change outfits without going to some place with a tailor. I have 3 saved outfits and a slightly different load out for each of their kits and weapons. It seemed really inconvenient to go out of the way each time and that piece of information just solved it for me. BIG THANKS !!
It's possible, yes. Likewise possible to edit your outfit without visiting a tailor. It's not even a naughty command. The command is even on the sto.gamepedia site, if you feel up for a reading.

Its easier than that. Grab a common boff, commision it, select edit uniform on the pop up, and the tailor opens anywhere. Just delete the boff when done.
I completely forgot about that trick. Usually any boffs I come across, except for Alien or Orion female, I end up selling. The other two mentioned races, I end up sending to friends, since I don't commission boffs anymore.

But with an expert warning: If you do that while in space, do NOT try to create any new outfits, or they will be forever bugged and ruin your character select screen.

Yes it can change between your saved outfits, for example I like to use the default Fed uniform when hanging around at ESD but use the MACO armor for ground TFO (or some other outfits based on how I feel at that time), be warned though that some outfits are zone restricted that you'll return to the first outfit in your list if you zone out while wearing one of those outfits (the summer wear for risa is a good example of zone restricted outfit as you use those only at Risa and Dranuur)

Most of my characters have full crews. I'd basically have to fire someone to commission new boffs.

Son of a... I've been wondering why a couple toons kept switching clothes on the select screen. Well, after I finish refining I'll have to take care of that. Thanks warp.
To my knowledge there's nothing that can be done about bugged costumes. Outfits can't be deleted, and the ones created in space can't even be edited. I've been stuck with a stupid mis-click result showing up randomly in my select screen for ages.

I heard they can be edited if you open the tailor in space.

The reason why the mods (usually) close down discussion of using this particular method, is because it is inherently bugged, and can result in slots being taken up that are permanently locked (uneditible). I would strongly suggest nobody tries it - as the GM's in the game are unlikely to do much about it.

They can't. They are visible in the tailor in space, but attempting to open one to edit will open one of your normal, working outfits instead.
Well none of my characters use more than 2 outfit slots so by fix I mean setting up a new outfit in an open slot.
That won't fix it. No matter how many outfits you have, the "space outfit" will always show up on character select if you logged that toon out in a space map.
But yeah, if you do find out how to fix it, tell me, too.

Has anyone tried to load an externally saved outfit? I would think that it would wipe out anything that you have in place. I don't have any bugged outfits that I know of or I'd try it myself.

1. It's not possible to open the bugged space outfits at all.
2. The problem is the existence of the outfit, and the fact it overrides my real outfit on the character select screen, not it's contents.

Well that certainly creates a problem. I don't think there's any way of fixing that.

Like this:
I already have enough boffs for whatever I want. They only reason to change would be min-maxing space traits.
