So I just spent 70k Dilithium and 70 Tech upgrades on a single item, only got it to reach ultra-rare quality. The quality upgrade % needs increased for each tech upgrade token by 50%. Also the daily Dilithium refining cap needs to be doubled minimum. Between Fleet projects, upgrading, and re-engineering it's far far to easy to blow through a million Dilithium in just a few minutes and it takes forever to build it back up. This needs to change.

RNG at its finest.
Its not supposed to be easy to gold plate something. Sometimes you get lucky and it goes Gold, sometimes you're not lucky. Also it is meant to be one of the Dilithium sinks to help keept the economy balanced.
Sounds like the Random Number Gods did not smile on you in this instance. Been there myself quite a bit.
I can't take it anymore! Could everyone just chill out for two seconds before something CRAZY happens again?!

The best tech upgrades are Phoenix Prize Pack and Omega. Stock up on Phoenix when we have that event, grind for Omega during the anniversary event.
Wait for an Upgrade Weekend.
Buy lock box weapons at Mark II not X - XII. Use an Omega upgrade, or if you have any a Phoenix with a rarity upgrade modifier from an R&D pack. This is so you get an extra 10 cheap chances for a rarity upgrade.
If you want to open lock box weapon packs yourself, keep an extra character at low level so when they open the packs you get mark II instead of higher.
Sometimes I get lucky and go gold in a few upgrades and other times I don't get off VR (or blue if I'm trying to upgrade a mission reward such as TOS phaser arrays)
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything.

Nothing that you mentioned "needs" to be changed. They are simply changes that you are requesting. They are bad requests too as they serve no purpose besides blowing up the dilithium economy.
When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.

No...to all of it. If you are attempting to gold a common items...well you are doing it wrong. You craft those are mark II and upgrade from there to see if it golds. If not start on the next mark II. It should take you no more than 10 attempts to gold an item this way unless you have super bad luck and on average it should take you between 4 and tries. If you are attempting to gold rep, lobi or fleet items that are BiS...well too bad, but that is gonna cost ya. However the improvement of making something gold vs VR is something like 2 to 5% depending on item. AKA utterly optional. If you don't think so, the problem ain't the game...it's YOU. And finally increase to dil refinement means kiss ever using that to buy zen goodbye.
This.. Plus you should be using Phoenix Kits, not superiors. And unless you absolutely need the upgrade NOW.. you want to hold off your upgrades until an Upgrade Weekend. Push the item to Mark XV if you like, but wait until the Upgrade Weekend to start pumping kits into it to get it Gold.
Unless you are boosting your % by using Omega Upgrades w/ Research Booster on a Mk2, your % is gonna suck. Personally, I generally stop at UR (or just buy then off the Exchange) because that's more than enough unless you just want to aspire to DPS godhood.
Want easy Epics? Wait for the sales that give you Ultimate Upgrades and buy a bunch. If it's a key ring sale, at least you then have keys to sell for EC. Then use that EC to buy Epics too. Win-Win!
Side musing... Upgrade weekends may not be the best for quality upgrades? Since once you get to Mk10 or so, the % chance goes down alot. So you'd think the more time you can spend at lower Marks piling on upgrades for x% each would help make it to Epic before you hit the 1% per upgrade level? Just a thought I'll never bother to test out!
No, once you reach Max Mk, then the Tech Level fill-ups will give you a Quality Level increase instead. The normal Quality Percentage only applies to increasing Quality Level for non-Maxed Level (non Mk XV) Items.

UR is quite good, I'm happy to get that.
