No T6 Meshweaver ship upgrade...Or enhanced Tholian Web Wall console... :(
  • ltminnsltminns Member Posts: 12,572 Arc User
The Meshweaver was purposely built as one of those cheap Secondary Prize Lockbox T5 Upgradeable Ships (to T5U with a Module) when T6 Ships were the Primary Lockbox Prize. Similar to about a half dozen Delta Quadrant ships.

After over 4k lockboxes opened and not a single UR or T5 or T6 ship, I pretty much given up on them. Same with R&D boxes and such. Just no point in it. When you go through that many lockbox and such no get a single ship (then my Lobi is messed up, but that is another matter) something is wrong with the odds system.

For those that do try the boxes, good luck. Hopefully it will be better than mine.

Is the console and the trait from the Mirror Crossfield being added to the Infinity choice packs for KDF this box?

Edit: Tribble patch notes say that the console and trait are going to be Lobi 'equipment pack' for KDF, so nevermind then.

Right now you can't get Lockboxes in the C-Store, they are adding them as an Item for 0 Zen cost.

Where you can now 'buy' Lockboxes is the Dilitium Store Special Items Tab. The current Lockbox is there in blocks of 20 for 200 Dilitium (or less depending on your current Fleet Dilitium Discount). They will now be 0 Dilitium there after this is implemented.

That is the Lockbox, you still have to acquire Keys to open them.

Most interesting. And bonus points for the reporting names fitting the theme and their respective ships' roles...

    • Jorogumo refers to a type of yokai (demon) from Japanese myth, oft depicted as a spider-woman controlling several smaller spiders. One can be found among Nioh's many boss encounters (reference); and
    • Iktomi is the Lakota name for a spider spirit known to several Native American tribes. Given that said spirit is a bit of a trickster, it's a fitting nod for a science vessel.

At this juncture, an aesthetic question arises. First, I suspect that like the two Tal Shiar ships, they will retain their 'old' hulls as an option - which makes me wonder if the Tarantula and Mesh Weaver will get an alternative model to match.

yeah, they already used up the tiny supply of viable scientific spider names, so figures they'd have to resort to mythological ones now

Miracle Worker seems like it would've been more suited to the Tarantula. However the the universal console makes this ship look appealing for use on my tactical toon, maybe I should get one for him since I used to consider getting the T5 version for him.

I have no idea if the Subsystem Targeting Trait is actually worth having, but it certainly sounds interesting. BFAW I with Accuracy Bonus compensates most of its drawbacks, and it turns all those Innate Subsystem Abilties from Science Vessels and Carriers into a free Tactical Slot, basically. That you also lower power levels a bit is just a bonus.

You know, I always wonder if the names of the ships being related to Earth lifeforms and/or mythologies is a close enough cultural "translation" from alien to Earth, and the universal translator has a bias for it

    OR

if maybe the Tholians are like "you Earthlings disgust us for many reasons... but, credit where it's due, your Earth-based "spiders" and ancient mythologies around them you're comparing us to are -as you often crudely say- "freaking kickass" and have become a required part of the education of our hatchlings."

    Of course ! :D

My Andorian main has all four current Tholians (internetz points for you if you're aware of the Andorian/Tholian connection) and I love them, especially as I'm keeping with the Tholian build theme. The Recluse is still one of my favorites that I'm comfortable with taking into any elite TFO. The Orbweaver a wicked sci boat which is hilarious with the webcannon. The Tarantula just dominates when it enters the map.

The announced T6 variants are indeed a pleasant surprise. \o/

You know, I always wonder if...

    -possibilities redacted-
As amusing as these are (especially the latter), there's a simpler answer: recall how I'd referred to 'Jorogumo' and 'Iktomi' as reporting names. It would not be beyond the realm of possibility that we're simply seeing the latest iteration of a habit made famous by NATO.

Or by the allied forces in WW2 for aircraft. As it shortens the time to report enemy forces when using reporting names than maybe their official designations from the original species/force.

    About the T6 Recluse:

IMO...same old T5 Recluse sold it as a boxed ship and PWE made a ton of money.

Now, no more ideas so grab same old ship designs...then copy paste and give it a different name then sell as a T6 and make some more money.

Just smells fishy and lazy work IMO.

Actually its not fishy. They're making updated versions that can compete more easily with other T6 ships that have Specialist seats. Added bonus is you can actually grab one for a fresh lv 1 character. Something you can't do with the T5. They've been updating T5 Lockbox/Lobi ships for a while while adding new ships. The advantage of a T6 version of a T5 like these is that its a bit easier to build due to having something to work on as a base. Most of the work is already done. They just need to work out specialist seating, trait, and updated visuals to distinguish it from the T5. We're still getting new ships as well.

How many times do people have to say that new Romulan ships ARE coming? Just because Discovery has no Romulans doesn't mean Cryptic has abandoned Romulans. There is no reference for Discovery Romulans. At all. Closest is the T'Liss, but that won't be seen until TOS.

Even if you put lipstick on a pig is still called a pig. A nicer pig of course but still the same.

To me just seems pure laziness to resell the same old stuff, even same consoles and just making minor tweaks. I guess a shiny is a shiny no matter what. Might as well throw the money in the trash and wait for a T7 version instead.

Yeah seriously! there's not Romulans in Disc and THAT's why we haven't seen a Romulan ship in like a year!

Seriously people, forget those non disc recon destroyers, forget those non disc support cruisers, forget that the Disc Fed ships got current age skins as well, forget that centaur revamp (tho Im more willing to bet that was done in someones free time) and forget seeing T6 Tholian ships. All things not seen in Discovery either but the WHOLE reason we haven't seen a Romulan ship is because they're not in discovery! /shakes fist grrrr you discovery speed bump that seems to only stop Romulan (ok ok Jem'hadar as well) content from being created!

but yeah they are 'working on Romulan ships' soon-tm and all that

I never get anything but junk out of those things either. I wish they would put the new ships in the z-store or vastly improve the chances of getting a ship choice thing out of those boxes, but in the meantime I have given up getting them for the miniscule chance of a ship too. It is a real shame since I have a "spider" motif character I would really like to put in a Tholian ship (especially a carrier or science ship).

Its one of those things that you have to realize your better off getting keys and buying one on the exchange, it makes them expensive as hell but if you open boxes chasing them your just dumping more $$.

I got SUPER lucky a month ago and got a t6 token from the infinity boxes, my first prize since I started in LoR, but I was only opening them for lobi to buy a console
