Yea... in a novel I have, Voyager came across a Nebula they called a Mutara type. If I had to guess, the Mutara class nebula is probably named after the Mutara Nebula, and have the same characteristics as said Nebula, which include the effects on ship systems such as shields and power.
Yeah, apparently that happened in Voyager.

I think it was one of the Gateways books. Voyager had to lead a fleet of displaced ships through a dangerous region, which included a nebula.

it always was - starbase 11 was the closest starbase to talos even back in TOS...even though, being a planetside installation, it shouldn't be called a STARbase

That's the issue with a few facilities in Star Trek. We know Starbases as the large space stations like ESD. But in TOS there were several ground based facilities called Starbases. Not only that, I believe Farpoint Station in TNG was trying to become a Starbase.

According to Memory Alpha, the full name seems to be Starship Base.
A starbase or starship base was a permanent support facility operated by Starfleet, consisting of space stations, drydocks, and/or ground installations. Starbases were hubs of activity and could serve multiple military and civilian functions.
    https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Starbase

Honestly if it was to be shorthand for something, it should have been Starfleet Base. That way its clearly indicating it belongs to Starfleet. Then again... I believe other species use the term Starbase for their major facilities as well...

Ah... but where IS the Gariman Sector? Maybe Boreth is in the next sector over, and with it being a major "landmark" it was mentioned. Hell... Enterprise could have been near the border of the sector as well, which means it could very well be nearby.

Would be no different than saying Port Angeles, Washington is close to Victoria B.C. despite the fact they're in two different countries.

Earth Space Dock has ancillary facilities to work on ships. Starbase 11 is on the ground but we have absolutely no idea whether it had orbiting dock facilities or not.

Was re-watching the latest episode of Discovery and noticed this little map seen in one of the last few seconds of the episode

    44T48lr.png

Discovery has moved Boreth from the location it was in the Star Charts, to a new, now canon, location. When can we expect to see the system moved in-game to reflect that I wonder.

Here is the Star Charts map the game is based off of, and the in-game map itself, for comparison, with Boreth's old and new locations boxed

    ePEL2WA.jpg

    J9y0Reg.png

    Um...never.

STO isn't canon; and Borath isn't the only location that'd different between what's shown in STO as opposed to what's shown on the screen in an episode/film.

I don't see why Discovery keeps messing up canon...

Discovery is not messing up canon. Most of the Trek shows have canonical difficulties including TOS, TNG, VOY, DS9, etc. This is not a unique thing. This is a common theme in many of the Star Trek TV series.

STO being canon or not is irrelevant, especially given that they have put so much effort into trying to stay true to canon, and the Star Trek Star Charts.

They already moved one doff cluster in sector space to make way for a Discovery location becuase that is where the location was shown on in-show maps to be. Makes sense they would move Boreth.

And what of the Boreth Sector? Wipe it away, rename it, or drag that block to swap locations with the B'Moth Sector?

None of the shows or films (including DSC) have any problem with canon. Thy have issues with continuity, not canon.

Vulcan having no moon and having a moon are equally canonical but a breach in continuity.

The only times ST has issues with canon was when Roddenberry decided he was going to strike TAS, TWoK, all the other TOS films, and DS9 (based on its premise alone), however it was CBS' decision not his so thankfully that never happened.

Canon is not a continuous, unbroken, narrative, it is a list of the works that 'count' towards a franchise. None of those works have to be concordant with each other.

I'll echo @crypticarmsman and say it probably won't happen. If it doesn't generate revenue and/or CBS hasn't ordered Cryptic to do it then there's no reason for Cryptic to spend money on it.

Personally, I'd ignore anything DSC does that conflicts with TOS/TNG canon that STO is based off of. I don't think the producers give a flip about canon. And isn't DSC in an alternant reality anyway? TOS/TNG was 'canon', DSC is 'Prime', the 2009+movies were 'Kelvin Timeline' or something. I'm assuming CBS is using 'Prime' to mean whatever show is currently in production. Which I'm fine with. DSC can do whatever DSC wants to do in their own sandbox as long as 'canon' timeline isn't corrupted. Kinda like how the new BSG in 2004 did it's own thing.

Actually "prime" refers to TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT and DSC (since it's the main or prime canon), to seperate it from the Kelvin timeline.

EDIT:Also how much actual canon conflicts DSC has opposed to fanon or EU conflicts.

If science was correct back in the 70's they said nebulas eventually ball up into planets too...
For values of "eventually" measured in the millions of years at a minimum, yes, assuming that a protostar forms in the nebula around which planets can accrete (not a guarantee - last I heard, for instance, the Crab Nebula hosts no stellar nurseries, and is in fact quite hostile to the formation of anything not extremely durable to the synchrotron radiation caused by the pulsar at its core). Not all nebulas will create stars, and not all stars will accrete planets.

We don't know if the Genesis Device converted all of the matter in the Mutara Nebula into a single star and its attendant planet, or just some of it. The question is never addressed in TWoK, because it's unimportant to Our Heroes.
