frequent game client stalls since new season

I have noticed that since at least the new season came out that I am receiving frequent stalls in the game starting off with when the opening music plays. the discovery music plays, but I am unable to do anything other than move the mouse cursor. it isn't until 30 seconds or so after the normal STO theme starts playing that the toon selection menu becomes available. Also when changing the screen from gameplay to another mode, such as the ship tailor the game also temporarily freezes up for a bit before I am able to do anything. I am totally unable to open and use the Cstore menu as that completely causes the client to freeze up everything but the mouse cursor. as long as I'm only moving around on the ground or in space, everything is fine, and I can access the mission, inventory, social, fleet, etc., menus just fine. it is so bad, that windows even thinks that during these periods, that the game client has stopped responding. I have verified my files through the launcher and through steam multiple times. I don't know why this is occurring unless STO is finally nearing the point where my PC is just too old to be supported. I know I just recently had to take the graphics setting sliders down from maximum too minimum in order to restore performance.

  • this issue seems to only affect the 32-bit client. the 64-bit client does not have this issue.

This could actually explain what's been going on with me today. I have been losing connection to the server ALL day, the game was playing choppy and stalling out, even freezing. I am using the 32-bit client but was gonna try using the 64 bit if force verifying all of the files doesn't work. It's to the point that I can't even get into the game right now. It freezes everytime it starts to connect to the account server to retrieve the character list.

EDIT: And if it makes you feel better, my computer is barely 6 months old and it's having these problems. I don't think outdated tech is the problem. Well, not all of it anyways.

  • yeah, what ever is the cause of the issue, it is only the 32-bit version of the game client. I wasn't having server connection issues however

Beaming onto Planets during missions crashes my PC, during certain Episodes. "Shadow Play" is the one currently where I am experiencing the blue screen crash, Windows does not report on why the crash happens.

for me regardless of x64 or x86, beaming from space to ground causes a client crash. not sure why. it isn't my files or internet connection. as a result I try not to ever visit ESD or other ground locations if I don't have too. My Nandi can provide me access to the exchange, and I can summon that freighter to access my bank. oddly enough, I don't crash when I switch from space to a ground PVE or when an episode has me switch from space to ground. seems to be something with the social free roam part of the game

  • I really don't want to jinx it, but since latest patch the x64 client has not seen a single crash. I will be testing the x86 client to see if the problems that I first posted about are still present shortly.

  • It is with great annoyance that I report that after the large patch recently (several gb's), the problem has gotten worse. the game stalls at the toon login screen. the music plays, and the mouse cursor moves, but you can not take any action. going to windows task manager shows that the client has 'stopped responding'. the stall is so bad now, that windows balks at end tasking the game. You can no longer even get into the game using the x86 client.
