    apparently they do but the DPS is so low they're not worth keeping.

    I think they go from Mk n common to Mark n+1 common as you rank up. But you still only have common TRIBBLE gear. BUT at <T3 you still have a ship firing 7 weapons instead of the 3, 4 or 5 the lower tier ships have AND a full complement of consoles. So not really at a handicap vs normal low tier ships, imo.
