The damage must fluctuate somehow.. I just tried on two of my characters and both times the blast completely wiped me out from full health. I do build more for offense then defense, but I have fairly good resists and shields, it was just a complete wipe.. not sure why, just how it was for me.
The blast did used to be affected by the amount of energy weapons people fired at it during the absorption phase (that's why it is an absorption phase). I would guess it still does.
I actually like it that way, the blast should one shot anyone in the ring (on advanced) automatically in my opinion. I like having to 'run for my life' makes it a little more fun. I am sure if I buffed with some temporary HP and fired off everything I have.. maybe I could take it, don't know.. but I enjoy scampering to get out of the way, so I am going to keep doing that.
Perhaps it should, but as far as practical gameplay is concerned it doesn't make much difference, since you can always just respawn all the same.
AFAIK current version has a stacking... and removable, damage buff.
...in the current event format does the blast get stronger if people fire at it when in the absorption phase? ...Reason I ask as the damage taken from it seem to vary
The blast did used to be affected by the amount of energy weapons people fired at it during the absorption phase (that's why it is an absorption phase). I would guess it still does.
The shockwave's variability has something to do with the number of small shards returning to the Entity I believe. The more small shards return, the stronger the blast.
Thanks. So it shares some similarities to the older versions.
The event version isnt over and done with in 25 seconds and there is no chance of warping into an instance that has already finished. That alone makes it better.
Absolutely. Which is not to say it couldn't be a lot better still.
Even before having tried the mission at all, this short thread alone is enough to tell it's still way, way, way too easy (seriously, calling a 15-second immunity a "timegate," bah).
Think those statements do not address the relative difficulty as much as they do address the feasibility of a 14 days grinder map.

Current method for me is that I use Evasive on the first explosion.. I move to just barely over 10km away and hold there, then charge back in.
I have never tried taking the 2nd burst, I have only tried the 1st. Usually on the 2nd burst I just use Rock And Roll and avoid it. If I happen to be using a captain not running Pilot secondary or if I forget, then I just use Evasive again as I usually have an Evasive Conn Officer on duty on all my builds.
I also tried the Arbiter/Kurak/Morrigu console.. and it can tank the blast just fine.
If u have access to the temporal spec tree, the roll back ability also saves one from blowing up and kicks in automatically. You only get pushed back but won’t die from the blast no matter how strong it is. Same does the invincible starship trait.
Last but not least those who fly tholian ships can use the orb weaver console on the event map. A bit tricky to time it right but when done properly the blast is completely absorbed. That is the most fun thing for me to do when taking my recluse supporter there at the meoment.

Interesting, didn't know that's possible. I think today I'm gonna try the Barrier Field Generator from the Phalanx and see if that also works.
Yea pls. check it out. No idea if it works though. Besides the obvious differences between the event and non-event version of the map there seem more difference to be hidden a bit. The mesh from the orb weaver *only* works on the event map for example while not doing anything at all on the regular version.

The event version feels more complete than the regular version does. The regular one feels like the thing is broke since you don't have to worry about shards and stuff.
Yep, the Barrier Field Generator from the Phalanx blocks both the damage and the knockback. Takes a couple seconds to fully deploy and it dies in the porcess but it works. Couldn't use it for the second blast because the entity was down way too fast.
Science is not useless when you can GW3 all of the Tholians into the entity and nuke them with DRB + SSV causing a warp core chain than seriously savages the poor thing.
The only thing changed was the control immunity for shards and giving it a tiny respite (immunity) when charging up the blast waves, hardly a reason for people to loose their minds.

Thanks for this reminder (highlighted). I was about to state that a subnuc does help to minimize the explosion (still testing), when really it was my science toon's primary temporal spec tree's continuity kicking in that saved me.
I don't have a strong opinion on this but as a rule of thumb, I don't like immunity to damage for NPC's in general. Also I would rather not have the extra visuals in an already visually polluted mission.

Quite correct. Today I ate a blast that did this to my ship:
[3:18] [Combat (Self)] Crystalline Entity deals 839218 (1159022) Antiproton Damage to you with Energy Release.
Then later in the log:
[3:18] [Combat (Self)] Your Continuity gives 38409 (36580) Hit Points to you.
[3:18] [Combat (Self)] Your Continuity gives 16815 to your Shields.

Huh? Moving to 11 to 12 km has never made me subject to the blast. Ensure your 'sensors' are focused on the Entity and not a Shard.

Yeah, if I get blasted dead after moving about 12 km away then it was from the shards, not the blast. Keeping my focus on the Entity and I get less aggro from the shards.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything.
@peterconnorfirst just to let you know that this thread has been mentioned by Bort in a tweet on the STO twitter. So thanks for bringing it up and drumming up some interesting discussion!

Not 100% sure about the new version but Tachyon Beam and Tyken's Rift used to help debuff the entity, they may work here? Can anyone confirm this yet?

Orb weaver cosole reqires one to be between 5-10km away from the entity. Perhaps its similar with wall?

That is from the shards that the entity sends out. If they shatter near you, they will do a lot of damage.
