MVAM, get wingman setup?

talonxvtalonxv Member Posts: 4,257 Arc User
Well guys this idea came to me in another thread. We all know saucer separation and Multi Vector assault pets well frankly stink. But with ViL we got the wingman setup which is a very good setup.

To breath new life into these modules, should MVAM and other like modes get a wingman style setup to help better control them?

Thoughts? Concerns? Am I off my rocker? Let me know.

I personally think they should just behave like hangar pets, and benefit from any skill or ability that buffs hangar pets as well.

The new wingman system has potential, and might just be the answer to the overall very clunky space pet AI.

    Yes
I don't have a ship with the wing-man system, but from what I've seen it works very well. I would support this for other ships as well. Maybe even do it where Fed, Rom, KDF Captains can have them two. They don't need to be attached to the ship physically, they could just warp in next to your ship. But if I could choose to have two escorts along with an Odyssey cruiser or Sovereign, I would definitely take it. Or give it another name, and gain an additional wing-man 'slot', starting with two slots for each of five levels after 50 while you end up with five ships of your choice warping in with you in single-player missions. For PvEs I would take it back to two or none at all.

I think it will come with a new price tag.

Let me add: not no as in....no you should not have it on your older ships.
I mean: No as in it will won't be added to existing ships.

It is popular so it would make sense to make money on it.

When the wingmen flew into the game they did kind of scream out as being a mechanic that could be adapted to cover the separation pets.

Maybe with a different attack command that suits the pet more thematically so saucers got a "death blossom" of something rather than a strafing run.

Better interface/control for special pets: yes

Don't have any wingmen ships so don't know what it's like, but probably, and incorporated into all separation ships since currently most just float about doing nearly nothing at all.

I'm not sure what would be better, wingmen mechanic or treat them as actual pets, along with pet buffs and all. But anything at this point would be better than the total gimmick separation ships are and always have been.

I would agree either adapt the wingmen ui with some changes to the abilities the pets use to suit the pet. Or just adapt the ground boff ui allowing us to manually if we wish to activate abilities of the pets (both sep-pets and hanger pets) both would serve to improve pets overall.

Those 'Multi Vector assault pets' are actually just 3 different parts of your own ship. VIL Wingmen are something completely different. So, no.

Also perhaps buffing their stats' a bit. Those ships should be brought back to being competitive.

Would be nice but won't happen, the hangar UI is more realistic but sadly that's just as unlikely. Separation pets will probably forever be the red headed stepchild.

I voted yes but this is how I see it getting implemented. It wouldn't be a free upgrade.

Anything to get the separation pets to be useful.

but you know what would really fix them?

No, keep wingman mechanics on the ships they are on now and new Jem'hadar ships coming out in the future...keep them special.

Special, in this case, meaning "The only ones that actually work".

Yes, and anything with pet separation. Saucers, Vectors, Birds of Prey from the Bortas, etc.

Wingmen can't be controlled. They have certain special abilities you can trigger, but you can't control them. Only hangar pets are actually controllable.

Which is to say other pets should have the hangar "setup."

Maybe instead of being able to receive commands the sep pets could simply maintain a certain distance to the player instead of refusing to go faster than a quarter impulse.

    Some don't but others do.

Yes because if it gets the dammed things working why not.

And just because they can be controlled is no excuse, you just have it so that whichever parts aren't being controlled by the player come under the control of the wingman mechanics.
