Yukawa frigates

The tooltip shows no restrictions for these hangar pets but has anyone who owns them tested to see what ships can or can't actually make use of them?

Tooltip also says they're hideki so it might not be that accurate.

Are they actually unlocked across the board or are they tied into the frigate using carriers and the game simply doesn't say?

    According to his link here
    https://sto.gamepedia.com/Hangar_Pet#Cardassian
They can be used on any ship with a hangar bay
    LTS and loving it.

I was wondering if anyone had tested to see it if was true or not as something like the escort carrier with a pair of frigates might be kind of fun.

I tested a fair few, and they fit anything with a hangar bay it seems. I even tested it with the T5 Fed escort carrier and T5-U JHEC, so you should be good.

Just the info I was looking for.

    Thank you!

Stipend should have helped get my zen stash built to a decent level by the time the next sale rolls around.

You might want to have a look at this thread before you decide on them or any frigate.

It seems they suffer from the same bug as the Callisto's and other Frigates where they don't follow your ship and are functionally useless.

If you want the Cardassian unlock, great.. cool.. but if you just want it for these things then there might be a better use of your Zen somewhere else.

The cardie ships were a longshot for me buying as I've no real interest in them as a race and the main attraction to me was what they brought to the table for the rest of my ship collection.

If the hangar pets are that bad then that interest has waned.

Shame really because they seemed to have nailed pet behaviour with the jem gunboats that cover all the basics like docking when told and staying with you at full impulse.

The Wingmen use a different mechanic entirely which is why those are so reliable. The Jem'Hadar gunboats (Hangar pets) are also remarkably good.. but again, those are fighters.

The problem seems to be specific to Frigates which unfortunately screws things for Cardassians. It's too bad they don't have a fighter pet option as well.

The Gunboats are Frigates, not fighters.

I haven't found the Yukuwas that bad at all, although I only have the basic ones right now. I went to K'tanis and went close up to Borg cubes cloaked in my Damar Class ship and sent my Yukuwas, Cardassian Torpedo Platform, and Platform cluster against it while I stayed cloaked and what watched and the Yukuwas did their job.

Also they dock well I find, so they mostly seem to follow my commands.

The Yukuwas are Upgraded Intel Hideki so the tool tip isn't wrong exactly. The Yukuwas use the Hideki model, but the Cardassian Intel skin. They have more firepower then NPC Hideki as well.

That is a point of some contention.

They are actually defined as - "frigate-rank large fighters" by Cryptic.

They have Fighter weaponry (Beams) opposed to the typical Cannon/Torp layout of Frigates. As far as hangar capacity and size, they are frigates but they behave like Fighters. They are not subject to the AI bugs that plague literally every other Frigate in the game.

If someone wants to call them Frigates, cool.. but to me, based on their layout and performance.. they're fighters.

In other words the gunboats have fallen prey to the vagaries of cryptics ship definitions as the heavy fighters get deployed in pairs, frigates come individually wrapped.

Cannons are not the defining feature of frigates other than they tend to be the more inept ones like the callisto. Beams are just as common, mobulai, arehbus, rommie drones, vorgon, baltims and meshweavers are all primarily beam users.

Fair enough, they can be called either one. As you said, they are another victim of Cryptic and their incredibly vague naming schemes. I just know they work really well, the Cardassian Frigates however, sadly do not (according to reports, I haven't used them, just passing on the info.)

From the look of that reddit thread they suffer from the same issues as the vorgon frigates where they refuse to keep up and if you engage in combat before they catch up they stop moving and pretend to be useful.

Solution is simple for the vorgons where you recall and deploy a whole lot more, although that tactic depends on how willingly they dock.

So far my Yukuawas dock pretty well actually.

I ran a setup with one of the Yukawa Frigates to the Jem'Hadar gunboats size wise, they are small. I would think gun boats would be smaller?
    Positive thoughts.

So this is a hangar pet one should avoid then? Aww.
