Difficulty

Without anyone replying the typical moronic 'git gud'...I would like some help.

Recently playing an alt, and running episode content only. I got to lvl 44, and am totally stuck on Empress Sela mission. I have as high level gear as has been awarded to me, and I'm getting demolished in under 15 seconds, by a D'deridex. ONE.

I've never encountered anything like this before in the game, where the difficulty shot up this fast, from a single mission to the next.

Can you be a little more specific please? Couple things I'd like to know that could help with the problem:
    • What's the name of the mission that you're stuck on? There's several missions where she shows up (and I honestly don't remember which one has her in a D'D). EDIT: NVM, I forgot there was a mission actually titled "Empress Sela".
    • Can you post your build on STO Academy and link us to it?

Try upgrading your gear Mark level and making sure you have polarize hull plating for tractor beam immunity, or Beam fire at will to shoot down those pesky huge death torpedoes?

Like a badass I shall make him look, and in the furnace of war I shall forge him.
he shall be of iron will and steely sinew.
In great armour I shall clad him and with the mightiest weapons he shall be armed.
He will be untouched by plague or disease; no sickness shall blight him.
He shall have such tactics, strategies and machines that no foe will best him in battle.
He is my answer to cryptic logic, he is the Defender of my Romulan Crew.
He is Tovan Khev... and he shall know no fear."

Polarize Hull is a great suggestion, it will help you a lot. If I remember correctly, that thing uses Tractor Beams to lock you down and Polarize Hull makes you immune to it. It's a science ability, even at rank 1 it's more then enough.

The suggestion to share your build is a good one, it's hard to advise you when we don't know how your ship is set up. Generally speaking though, if you're a combat ship.. put all power to weapons, activate an Attack Pattern like Attack Pattern Beta, Emergency Power to Weapons if you can and then Beam: Fire At Will. Use Polarize Hull and Evasive Maneuvers to break tractor beams, keep moving and circle around him blasting him with Fire At Will.

It should take him down fairly quick. If you need help specific to your build then please share what you currently have and we'll see if we can tailor the advice toward what you have available. Good luck!

There's also something else to ask. Which character background? Because that determines additional options. If Romulan, you can always redo the episode for the Caustic Plasma weapons, and replace your gear with a full load of those. At your level, they'll be decent to have. I would suggest instead of Beam Fire at Will, to go for Beam Overload if you use beams. If using cannons, go with Cannon Rapid Fire. If you see an angry torpedo coming your way, smack your Brace For Impact if you can't use Polarize Hull or Evasive Maneuvers.

"Empress Sela" is a Fed-only mission, it's part of the redesigned Romulan Mystery episode. (It's the one where Sela tries to blow up Vulcan.)

Oh. That part, I did not know about, as I haven't played Federation really in...well, over 5 years. I can't stand playing blueside.

There's also another suggestion. See if someone is willing to craft you some new gear, assuming you aren't able to yourself, OP. Or spend some EC to invest in some of the gear reward packs for specialty weapons. Such as for ship weapons. Even some of the cross faction gear(such as Bio-Neural Warhead or Subspace Jumper) can be a huge help. You can find those on the exchange. :)

Best bit of advice I can give is to pick up some mk ix whites from the vendor until you hit 50. those whites will do you well until you can hit 50. Otherwise you could pick up some basic stuff off the exchange. I don't advise investing much into the ship or anything until you hit 50 because that's when the game starts to open up more. At 50 then you could look into a more permanent ship and solution for long term stuff. Short term I would say to pick up a cheap set of the beams and go from there. as my cohort said, if you can shows us where you're at build wise then that would help more. Without knowing where you're at with your build, your skills etc, all we can really do is offer basic advice. You're more than welcome to hit me with an in-game mail or pm on here if you need more detailed help.

Your best bet against D'Ds is to keep your distance beyond where they'll pop you with a tractor beam. Polarize hull for if you stray too close and get popped anyway. I think 5km is when they pop that.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.

I had the same problem when i started out fighting them.
Having one of your science slots with polarise hull to escape the tractor beam and subsequent death barrage is helpfull but so is tractor beam repulsers since they destroy the death barrage.

Oh yeah, I forgot about TBR. Those things saved my hide many times.

Also, for really funny effect you can get Intel ship (event ships are playable from level 40, but I'm not sure if you got access to any) and put a BOFF with "Kinetic Magnet" skill - the skill makes target a magnet for all targetable torpedoes (like plasma heavies etc...) B)

    Edit:
Science BOFF skill Hazard Emitters is also very usefull there - it clears plasma fires (from the torps)...

A lot of good advice in this thread. Years back, I used to get completely wiped out in the predecessor to this mission (the forerunner of what became this mission). I even quit the game for months because of this mission.

What I discovered works really well is the hazard emitters. Use them all the time now when dealing with hostile Romulans. Completely life saver and completely changed my outcome in these kinds of missions. There is nothing less fun than lasting less than ten seconds in each battle because of horribly designed one on one mechanics.

Yeah, I keep Science Team I and Hazard Emitters II in every build that can slot them. Together they take care of 90% of debuffs. (If your ship can only fit an Ensign Sci, go with HE1.)

I know this post is a year old, but I've had a similar issue. As I leveled up, I've been able to deal with enemy ships with a fair amount of difficulty. Now, I'm lvl 65, with a Galaxy-class refit ship and my gear is Mk XI or better, and I try to get rare or very rare items though I do have a couple of uncommons. Regardless, I'm getting my keister handed to me almost every time now, with little or no wearing down of the enemy. Saucer sep, help from another ship, scorpion fighters, I've tried them all with the same outcomes. It's at the point where I'm starting to lose interest in the game. I'd love to get my hands on a T6 ship, but I can't afford the zen to do it. At my wit's end here. Any help?
