Too early for that yet, got a few more years in the real world before it changes to 2411.

I would say at this rate make it 1418

Not that it matters anyway. There really isn't anything in the game that actually tells us that we're somewhere in 2410, if not for some story blogs and interviews/live streams we'd still assume. 2409

Well, that and the start of the Delta Recruit event where the game tells you that the Breen Arc is 18 months after the tutorial. Telling you it's in 2410.

If they wanted, they could easily retcon a time jump forward after the events of Midnight, since we essentially start a new story with New Dawn.

Except for the opening cinematic of "Surface Tension" explicitly saying it takes place in 2410.

In your logs (a forgotten but stillfunctional part of the gane - you can write your own captain's logs!) it gives a in-game stardate which is actually analogous to real time so it is actually 2418 even in-game, but not in-story.

thats a thing, all the missions except one or two don't have a fixed date on when they occur in the timeline. one mission would say it, but for all i know most of the missions are between 2409 and 2440. unless that detail is pinned down, it would be difficult to pin down the timeline as exactly 2410.

with so many missions in story arc our captains and crews are over worked... yes needs to be some later date i agree.
seems those recruits of year 2409 went through hell... many died but still new ones are keep coming.

One of the devs made a comment on reddit stating that STO timeline is still 2410.

Wasn't there a recent mission that said we were in 2411 already? Or has it been retconned again?

I say use RL time, tack on 400 years. Make it 2418. It's not that hard to mark and track time. And makes far better sense than seeing all these participation pip admirals and fleet admirals who got their rank within days fresh out of the academy. I can see the Starfleet drill instructors now, greeting the fresh new recruits off the shuttle. Bless those recruits, with the Scrappy Doo mentality going in, before they are indoctrinated and spoiled beyond belief.

I suppose it would depend on which quadrant you're in because they're in different timezones.

The game mentions the date once in a blue moon, who cares what year it is.

I've mentioned this before. I would prefer that we be in 2418 rather than 2411, but I do agree that notice of time passage is needed.

Given how crammed the last six months (at best) of 2410 would have to be for it to still be 2410, and comparing it with the one and a half year that the episodes leading up to the Breen arc got...

It's about time that it's 2418 TBH. The amount of wars, featured episodes and physical distance of space covered is ridiculous for less than 2 years.
When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.
  • ichaerus1ichaerus1 Member Posts: 986 Arc User
But then again, this is STO, where time travel shenanigans are abound, and certain high end people aren't able to keep the passage of time consistent with wars, space travel, featured episodes, character promotions. It's all blended into a voracious blur with lots of whip cracking to drag people through a gaggle of events that would logically cause widespread death to characters from body breakdowns as well. How many anniversaries have passed since 2409? How many seasonal festivals with Q and Risa?

It should be about 2418 in-game.

Does anybody know any good reason to keep the progression of storytime in the game at this laughably low rate?

For the same reason that Peter Parker graduated from High School in 1965, and from College in 1978 and finally married Mary Jane Watson in 1987.

Fiction progress more slowly than reality.
