Re- Engineering Tips Request

After seeing (crtd)x4 (pen) weapons yesterday I’m trying to learn more about this new mechanic which seems to be revitalizing large swaths of the economy and crafting in general.

What are your best practices for harvesting salvage?

Any tips for getting the mods you want as cheaply as possible?

Since salvage is junk gear best bet might well be to spend some time in a BZ killing for drops, given that mission rewards, rep and box gear can't be salvaged. Huge downside to salvaging at the moment is they were too lazy to add a way to break down junk in bulk so you'll have to faff about rclicking everything bit by bit.

Getting the mods you want is RNG based so depends how addicted you can get to a spin to win mechanic and how vital you feel certain mods are vs how much dil you're willing to drop into it.

To avoid blowing too much dil in one sitting you can use the exchange to lock it away temporarily. Set yourself a limit and stick with that.

Personally I've better things to spend dil on that gambling on the chance to get a small improvement to a single bit of gear so the above info shouldn't be taken as a golden rule or anything. No doubt others more into min maxxing will be able to correct or build on what I put.

Yeah, to get salvageable stuff, just run the DSEs, RAs and BZs to collect loot drops and then right click to salvage them. Yeah, that can get annoying or take up time, but that's about how the cookie crumbles.

One way to make things go a bit better is maybe do your salvaging while you're traveling around on the map.

Unfortunately the roll is RNG-based, so like said above, set a limit, unless you have a buttload of dil you're not looking to use any other way.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything. :D

Just discovered recently, thanks to STO discord channel, that holding down CTRL key while selecting discard or salvage bypasses the prompt. It actually works, unlike previous advice to hold down enter key which never worked for me.

Also you can acquire gear that is able to be salvaged by doffing or R&D.

You can salvage failed crafting projects such as things with snare, thrust and over on it for example too. Can't roll those out.....yet or maybe never who knows.

Yeah certain special mods can't be added to things with re-engineering.

Argala seems to be the quickest and best way for me to collect drops. Battlezones take WAY too long to actually fly around in. In Argala, enemies warp in pretty quickly and I can usually fill my inventory (which is fully upgraded with max slots) in about 15 minutes. Just park outside argala. Run the patrol and skip the very last part to avoid the 30 minute cooldown. Repeat and you get a ton of drops.

Probably depends on how many folk are in the BZ and travelling en masse. Bigger clumps means more enemies and better chance for seeing drops. Slum it with the FAW crowd.

Not too sure how travel time vs umpteen loading screens will pan out but flying from a to b also gives a small downtime to do inventory management.

I haven't been to the Dyson sphere in awhile since I haven't needed any rep gear, but the Undine space BZ used to give piles of gear.

I hope they implement something like this in a near future because if not.. its going to be a pain.

Salvaging massive amounts of stuff is a grind, yes. If it were as easy to salvage large amounts of stuff as it is to use the replicator's recycle tab, a lot of folks would have far more salvage at this point than they'll ever use.

Just remember guys that there is a daily limit for looting. End of game (STF) rewards do not count.

Isn't that only in foundry missions? To kill the "battleship farmer" missions.

I really hoped we could also turn lockboxes into salvage, as well.

Would give me a reason to not just discard them on pickup!

Nah. I did an hour or so in Badlands, then did farmer mission and didn't get anything past map 1. I used to run SB24 solo, and it was the same with that.

It seems like they’ve significantly reduced loot drops since the latest patch. I got zero salvageable items from one of the foundry farm missions, and the place with the swarmers in Dyson used to award a bunch, but out of 20 drops there 18 were lockboxes, one was a battery, and one was actually a salvageable item. Anyone else notice this?
