what can i do to fix "Fatal Error: Direct3D driver returned error code (E_INVALIDARG)"?

in Windows and General: PC, Network, and Other Technical Issues
Whenever i try to open the game, it goes into a blac screen as if it's gonna load the game, then goes out of it and shows the following error message: "Fatal Error: Direct3D driver returned error code (E_INVALIDARG) while creating D3D device." I've already deleted the whole game and reinstalled it, but that didn't work. What can i to to fix this?

    Does this only happens with STO, or are your other games affected as well?

    Have you attempted to install the latest graphic driver?

    List the specs of your desktop or laptop.
