What I do for fastest race on ice is roll by doube tapping w to stop from sliding off certain parts of the track and sprint afterwards. The NPC is so slow that there shouldn't be any issues.
Turns out the race has a super EZ mode though likely not intentional. So between that and lobi I'll be fine. Balls to the dancing though in the summer event.
Not to repeat what anyone else has said about the daily winter race: Don't use the ice boots on the track. It lowers your traction, but the ice already gives you a speed boost. There's no benefit to using them when you're racing.
Everyone has a strategy for Fastest Game on Ice that works for them. For me, Sprint, jump/turn, sprint. It works for me and I haven't lost a race using that strategy. I've sometimes miscalculated and gotten off track and DQ's, but not 'lost' to an opponent.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything.
Although a meme I ran across on FB is a chuckle too. "If you're praying for a blizzard, please go to Dairy Queen" In reference to the 4" snowfall we had here last week in the Southern US. *Chuckle* That much snow paralyzes us down here.

I'll post this again, as I do every year, so that 99.9% of you can ignore it. Again.
For the PVP race, there are some things make you go faster -
1) Traits from Terran rep (tier 1, Close Quarters Combatant), and Delta rep (tier 1, Physical Conditioning)
2) Counter-Command rep armor (+25% runspeed for 3 seconds after performing a roll)
3) [run] mod on ground weapons
4) The Command Specialisation, (not Commando), Tier 1, top of the left tree, Forward March
This one I haven't actually tested -
5) Delta Alliance Elite ground set (two-piece bonus +5% Run Speed)
#1 through #4 I use myself, and I'll vouch for all of them. Though it is worth mentioning that #2 only helps if you're an old school corner-roller like me. If you're a bunny-hopper, it's pointless, so use #5 instead.
I've run the PVP race 14-15 times in the last three days, and only had to settle for second place three times, all three times behind a skilled bunnyhopper. Other than that, I've finished first every time.
One tip I will share - at the start of the race, when the timer has run down, there's a pause, and then three hoots of a horn before the gate drops. I roll once between the first and second hoots of the horn, so I have the 25% speed boost when the gate drops, and that helps me sprint to the first corner ahead of the competition.
(1) PvP Race - No 1st place Flag ?? Seems some folks have the ability to be able to grab the 1st palace flag without ever being in the race. Last year, there was something about changing instances, but that was "fixed" at about 80% effectiveness
(2) PvP Race - The Infamous "Bunny Hoppers" - you know them, they are the guys that start jumping at the start and finish the race before the "real" folks clear the turn after the big drop off.. They usually leave Wonderland immediately after the race. Been going on since the First Winter Wonderland..
The first one actually is a well known exploit (also happening in summer). What I don't get is why people are using it, because it gives them less races to run and isn't guaranteed to work. Just finishing the race out of the top three every time will net you higher rewards.
The Bunny Hoppers - they don't have a reason to disappear. While I despise that mechanic and think that jumping should be nerfed to be considerably slower than running (not only for the event), it *is* a mechanic in the game and those players are free to use it. (Also, it is only an "exploity" thing if you know how to do it - bunny hopping takes skill, unlike the first one).
One more tip for the Winter Event, which also works in summer or on ESD: When you're not interested in the opinion of Todd from Charlotte about taxation: right click on the name, choose "ignore", problem solved. You will have the other issue of people talking sensibly without partners, but that's still better than all those politidiots.

1. Even if you don't need any of that color, open the presents that he drops. They might contain Ornament Fragments, commodities or Gingerbread people. All of these help to make the activity more rewarding for everyone.
2. If you want red presents, stop shooting at him when he gets to about 25% health. He will then toss 5 presents each time, rather than 4, and 3 of them will be red. Chasing him off only gives you 1 commodity, and it probably costs at least 1 present toss each time. You'll make that commodity up in Ornament Fragments, commodities or Gingerbread people (they give a commodity for every 2 released) and will keep him from resetting back to mostly-green presents for the next few tosses.
3. Try not to kite him away when he's targeting you. Circle him, or just let him hit you until you get frozen. He'll pick someone else after you get frozen.
This is an MMO, not a Star Trek episode simulator. That would make for a terrible game.

Can we get a sticky for the duration of the event please?
Please post silly dog pictures directly to my wall to show your displeasure.

It's a surprise every year when people don't realize something that is so simple. Stay safe out there.

LOL! And passes the previous racer's competition, too.

HA! I just posted that to the vids comment section.
Yup
But I thought it'd be a good demonstration of how to use drifting to corner without actually stopping or slowing.
