What does the support mode do there are no details.

    Support mode is only available if you have at least the 2 piece set. You can see the set bonuses by right clicking on the item then click "Info". Not sure of the steps for consoles.

    it does less damage to the target and does an aoe healing pulse around you, from what I've seen.
    Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.

    pretty much this, it can however be very useful if used correctly. more accurately the primary fire does a fairly weak (about 17 hp per tick) hot on all allies near you (including yourself) though the HOT will reapply each time you fire essentially giving you an endless HoT, while the secondary fire gives a bigger single heal but with a cooldown.

    While not as powerful as an actual healing skill it can be used to supplement those and can give you more DPS overall then not using it (since dead=0 DPS) when used correctly.
