Fleet Starbase Visual Proposal

Any chance we could make the shield visuals available for the exterior of Fleet Starbases ?


They could make this feature in a similar manner to how the Display console in the main Fleet Starbase works.
EX: Individual display on/off toggles for tribbles, and Winter Event ships. etc.

Traditionalist who don't want the exteriors to change can simply not engage the option. While players who do wish to see a "fresh coat of paint" on the exterior of their starbases could simply toggle the visual on/off through the console at the main fleet starbase.

All shield visuals currently in game could be made available.

Myself, I'd love to see the Delta Alliance Unimatrix shield visuals applied to our Fleets starbase. We now have quite a few excellent shield skins to choose from.
The key here would be that it works on an individual basis

Now, I'm not familiar with coding and implementing new design options into existing code. But what I do know is that if the 3D models are still available to Cryptic, changing the Hatching/skins on premade objects is not a big deal. (At least it isn't on CAD3D in my experience)

This is obviously not a high priority request, more of a QoL thing. But I feel people who play this game really appreciate the visual options and character customization.
So if implementing such an option isn't too time consuming, could the powers that be put this on their radar and maybe take a look a the possibility.


So, would this be something you'd like to see made available ? Or is this Bad idea/waste of time/resources ?
I think it'd be a worthwhile project. Provided its not super time consuming.

Thoughts ? Comments ? Concerns ?

    Would be nice but probably way to much time/money needed to pull that off. And even if they'd add it it will probably either cost zen or be one of the biggest dilithium sinks in the game. Like we don't have enough of those..... :|

    Dil and Zen aside, time is certainly something I'd be concerned with as well.

    However, with the recent addition of Visual slots on ships, perhaps they may already have some sort of a roadmap or ideas on how to make this a reality ?

    The Ship Visual slots were very well received by the community (I think its one of the best, if not the best QoL change we've received) .... so I don't think it would hurt the DEVS to give it some serious consideration.

    Though I do agree, if it ends being a huge job perhaps its not worth the effort.

    The question is... will ALL visuals be available to choose from, or will it be based on what sets the Fleet Leader has acquired, thus setting up for the Fleet Leader to actually work on obtaining sets from rep (And the two free sets that have visuals as well as the Aegis crafted set) before the projects can be slotted?

    I would be thrilled if that could be the case @rattler2. Shield visuals would be a good start I think, but I certainly won't say no to a beautiful Aeon skinned K-13. That would be stunning.
    Don't think you would either, going by some of the things you've written about the Aeon shuttle.

    Would the visual selections be based on what ship skins/Rep Sets the Fleet Leaders has at his/her disposal ? (IE: Get the Fleet Leader doing some actual work and investing in STO and their fleet) ?

    I think this would work best on a completely individual basis, contained to that individuals view. Leader or not, I don't think they should have the ability to change the look for everyone. Would be a bummer if they put something on you don't particularly care for.
    Locking a fleet leaders ability to slot projects based on a their gear collection is perhaps overkill, and could potentially be used by some to extort or exploit other player.

    I figure it would work like the tribble/Decoration console on board the base. Where it's the individuals choice whether they want to see tribbles lying all over the floors or the event holo ship decorations. Which is completely independent of what your fleetmates may or may not choose.
    By this I mean, you'd warp into the Fleet base system map, you'd receive the Dock/Transport message on approach, but you'd have another choice now; "Base Visuals", click that, it brings up a list of all the shield skins you've unlock on that character or account. Pick your favorite.

    Something like that might encourages each player to go out get the shields or skins for themselves (even more so if they could see a full list of all options - "grayed out" until acquired of course).
    By doing that, perhaps people might play a bit more, or spend more in the shop. Or even spend more time at their home starbases.

    Anyway, interesting thought on the ship skins Rattler I'd not considered that.

    I might be mistaken, but I don't think shield visuals for a ship and for a starbase are interchangeable, if the starbase is one functional object in the first place and not single objects like walls and spheres simulating a functional entity. But I don't know aboit the technicalities, more possibilities for the original starbases would be good. But I can't see someone investing effort to modify those old and finished maps. There are still a number of visual issues with the starbases (distorted textures in hallways and the sort) that never received any attention since they were introduced :/
