As an alternative to straight DSP I suggest that disabled enemies should be counted as defeated. For example, if an NPC has at least three of their Energy Levels dropped to Zero by Energy Siphon, and Tyken's Rift, and the like, remove that enemy from the map as if they had been destroyed. This would allow for a way to clear a mission other than by Hull Damage.

It would certainly add a new element to the game and in particular queues and make things like drain builds or shutdown build more relevant again.
BUT......
You'd have to make it just as difficult to shut down a ship as it is to kill it, or you'd end up with everyone going to one or the other and lose any balance.
I mean I can shut down a ship in about 3-4 seconds in my drain build, a lot of even high DPS builds would be pushing it to kill things outright in that time under certain circumstances.
A toggle to use the plasma-venting Disabled animation that shows up in some missions for a few seconds before the enemy disappears from the map would be nice.
