So I take it an alarm goes off, and the station area you are in is sectioned off by a forcefield when firing a phaser... found this old thread on Reddit,
but can anyone please fill me in on more details or a reference?
Also does this only apply to phasers or all energy weapons?

Well, except when you go there for that meeting with all the ambassadors and have to escort them out and it's a fight to get out. I sure fired my phaser a lot on DS9 then.
But on DS9 is another story, since its a Barjoran space station and not Starfleet. Bajoran security will just throw you in a "holding cell" (not brig), because weapons are not allowed on the promanade.
The Ferengi Bar serves Soylent Green the next day and your picture ends up on a milk carton...
