Time for a new specialization ... or a way to trade in specialization points?

I realize that grinding a new specialization tree isn't fun for casual players who don't spend crazy hours playing this game or players who have 10+ characters in the game. That said, I know I'm not the only player sitting on a stockpile of specialization points with nothing to spend them on.

My main science character has all the current specialization trees maxed out and I've got an additional 16 specialization points waiting to be spent on whatever the next specialization tree happens to be.

I know we're getting a new reputation tree to grind with season 12, but I'd really like to see more specialization trees before I end up with 50 specialization points and nothing to spend them on.

Alternatively, if the devs don't want to create more specializations, then give players a way to "cash in" our stockpiled specialization points ... like trade in 5 specialization points to get an ultimate universal tech upgrade that automatically upgrades any console or weapon to epic quality with zero dilithium cost.

Those ultimate tech upgrades already exist in the game (part of the key ring bundle promotions), so it would be simple to setup a vendor/store option that lets players trade specialization points for those ultimate tech upgrades.

At some point you will no longer be able to earn additional spec points. Instead you will get some dilithium every time the meter reaches 100%. I think it's around 2'500 dilithium ore per level.

I hope that's not the case in the future. I don't need more worthless unrefined dilithium ore. If the devs want to give me dilithium in exchange for my specialization points it should be REFINED dilithium.

    Meh... spec points...

The first captain I created has something like 125 points... none of which has been allocated yet... I'll allocated them when I feel I can no longer handle Advanced STF or Elite ground STFs.

    Edit:

Or when I decided to join the very high DPS rat race...

So what if you don't need it. Most players do. I'll take as much of it free as I can get.

You can already get as much free dilithium ore as you can handle. My main science toon has 698,000+ unrefined dilithium ore just from running PVE queues and occasionally cashing in rep marks for more dilithium ore.

I'm a lifetimer in a T5 starbase fleet with all the T3 holdings so I've got access to all the refining goodies ... but my stockpile of unrefined ore just keeps increasing. Even when I take the occasional break for a few days and get the automatic refining it only makes a small dent in the stockpile and in 1-2 days I've built the ore reserves back up.

Players who grind the PVE queues have WAY too much unrefined dilithium sitting around. That's why I say we need more ways to get refined dilithium ... other than cashing in zen for dilithium via the exchange.

That said, the devs don't want players to have more ways to get refined dilithium because right now it helps sell zen.

Anyway, we're switching topic. The main issue I wanted to bring up was specialization points ... not dilithium.

Didn't Geko (yet another 'strike' against him) nerf that Dilithium reward (as in: removed it altogether) shortly after Specgate?! I'm certainy not getting any Dilithium ore for finishing a bar.

Increasing the refinement cap will simply cause the exchange rate to increase. Steve Ricossa (Executive Producer) has stated in the past that Cryptic wants to avoid a high exchange rate because that would be detrimental to the game.

Me... I will simply allow spec points to accumulate on all my captains until I finally decide to use 'em.

Nor am I. I just see 'You have reached the maximum Captain rank and number of specialisation points' or something like that.

I've maxed all Specializations on my Main, and still keep earning points not Dilithium.

If they're not ready to give us a new Specialization, then I'd like to see Commando and Strategist made into full spec trees so I can train my BOFFs in them. :)

The only good thing about continuing to earn spec points after maxing all the trees is that when a new tree arrives (like with Temporal) is that you can max it straight away. I can't imagine that the dil gain per point can be that great anyway since in filling the XP bar each time you're likely earning ore anyway- I'm sure someone must have done the maths by now.

I'll take all the unrefined you don't want. I find it quite useful one can never have to much.

Meh. Just cause you play so much that you've got extra points coming out your ears, doesn't mean they have any reason to toss out more spec trees for the heck of it. Just about every MMO in existence hits a point where XP from activities/quests/dailies/whatever just stops meaning anything. Just the way it is - there's no way that devs can keep creating "content" (whether that's quests, maps, higher level caps, etc) as fast as players consume it. Especially uber-grinder-hardcore dudes. Just something you have to live with. /shrug

Yeah, I really don't have sympathy for people who blast through a game then complain about there not being enough to do. Just be glad you have enough free time to get 'too many points'.

    Go away! :) *Jelly*

Seriously, on my main I got a surplus of 7 'innate' pec points (the kind you have, but can't trade, as they're not packages). After the initial 7, they simply stopped accruing (for reasons unknown). Wish I could let my alt use 'em, though.

Not at least for me. One of my mains has 26, and another has 18 points in reserve (with all specs filled) and they still get 2800 Dil per level up, so not sure why you aren't?

    Because... Geko?!

Seriously, I don't give a Targ's behind about the alleged unrefined Dilithium reward, but am slightly upset you still keep getting spec point, whereas I don't. On my main, I fill up a full bar in ca. 2 days (and not even going for it, per se, as I no longer get rewards for it). So, Geko, you owe me about 600 Spec points then for the last 2 years!
