Please help with deciding on a ship!!!

Hey everyone,

With the ZEN and ship sale, I've decided to pull the trigger on purchasing a ship (I play on Xbox One)...

I have narrowed it down to two ships...

Operations Command Battlecruiser - Concorde Class
or
Yamato Class Dreadnaught Cruiser

When comparing the stats, it looks like the Battlecruiser has higher hull, shields, and turn rate, and also has an extra console modification. Plus the Battlecruiser is "newer" since it was recently released on the Xbox One, while the Dreadnaught has been around for a while longer.

What are your thoughts? I'm assuming most of the ships are comparable in one way or another, but I was wondering what advantages these ships have over each other?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

    For DPS? Neither.

Concord isn't the best of the command ship's. The presidio is better. In any event. The reason the battle cruiser has a higher hull and shield modifier is because it's already fleet level while the dreadnought is not.

Yamato, because it rhymes with Clamatto.

I think you may find the Bridge Stations on the Battlecruisers are superior. Have fun. :)

So here's my issue with the Presidio Class... It's ugly! It's too skinny and the saucer looks like an arrowhead. Can you customize it to look like the Concorde Class?

Only if you purchase the concord as well.

You can buy the 3-pack, so you have the set, and all the skins.

I have no idea when it comes to Starfleet ships. But good luck with your choice. Hope you enjoy the heck out of it!

Yes, you can mix Concorde parts on a Presidio or just use the whole Concorde skin, but only if you own a Concorde. Buying a ship means you also bought the skin. Owning only one of the Command ships means you can only use the skin it comes with. I assume you can only afford one? Since aesthetics are important to you, I can also assume that the choices that you've narrowed it down to are at the top of your list in terms of looks. If you're only looking at these two, then I'll focus on them specifically.

Concorde has the full Command seating. Commander Engineering/Command and Lt. Science/Command.
    Yamato has Lt. Commander Engineering/Command.

The Command spec boff skills have never been super popular among the playerbase. The most used ones are Concentrate Firepower (a very good torp skill, so not good if you don't use torps; not recommended on slow-turning cruisers) and Suppression Barrage (used to whittle down damage dealt by enemies, decent on tanks if you can spare the slot).

Since neither have Lt. Commander Science, I personally prefer Yamato's boff layout over Concorde's because it allows FAW III (Fire at Will 3).

Yamato also has the Weapon System Efficiency (reduces weapon power drain by 25% for you and allies close to you). Concorde however has the Inspiration mechanic. It's not a must, but it's nice to have. The same can be said about the Phaser Spinal Lance on the Yamato, although I heavily prefer Inspiration abilities over the Lance because IMO team-wide buffs outweigh a single Lance attack.

If you can save for a fleet ship module, a Fleet Yamato is more or less on par with the Concorde's stats. Take note that it costs 1 FSM to upgrade to fleet only if you acquired the standard version through the C-Store. It costs 5 FSMs if you do not own the C-Store version. (It's not recommended to pass on the C-Store version because you miss out on the account-wide unlock, the starship trait, and the console. Other characters of the same faction will not be able retrieve the ship.)

Yamato has less turn rate. I prefer Concorde's 3rd science console over a Fleet Yamato's 4th tactical. Yamato's starship trait is nothing really special. Slot it in if you're new and working with a tiny amount of options. Concorde's starship trait is actually one of those terrible traits everybody hates because all it does is give 3 seconds of super armor whenever you use Brace for Impact.

Concorde's console isn't super great. It's the console set bonuses that are pretty great if you're new and building towards endgame, but you're not going for the 3-pack or the mega-bundle. Standalone, it's nothing to write home to about. Just another one of those "may as well slot it in cause I've got little to work with" consoles. As for Yamato's console, I'm not entirely sure. I've never actually seen a pic of its stats and all I know is a description of what it does without any numbers.

Overall, I prefer Yamato. However, aesthetics come first for me, so I would end up buying Concorde if I had to choose between the two. I'm always happier in a ship that I enjoy looking at. I don't know if you're the same. Stats wise, I would recommend Yamato and then saving up for a Fleet version. If you're like me though, I would say pick the ship that you prefer visually. People that place aesthetics highly usually tend to (but not always) be more satisfied when they go for the ship they love and then making it work from there. Hope this helped.

((points at the Eclipse Intel Cruiser & Fleet version))

Absolutely love that ship on many, many levels. Was only bumped out of it on my Fed-main by the arrival of the Intel Dreadnought.

Sleek, unique "intel" hull material option (not shown here), native cloak, Intel seating and active sensors, all but indestructible, wonderfully potent console... Look it over. You might like what you see. I feel there are very good reasons it topped the list as the single most purchased ship on the Playstation implementation of STO.

If it's one of the two.. definitely the Yamato. The Concorde is very mediocre in every sense of the word.

If you can get past the looks, the Presidio is vastly superior to the Concorde and also better then the Yamato.

Given the options currently available for console, your best option is either the Eclipse, or to use the Zen to buy keys, sell the keys and buy a Vengeance Class Intel Dreadnought. Downside here is that the Vengeance is not an account unlock and will only be available to the character that purchases it.

The Yamato isn't a bad ship at all, it's actually pretty fun and will get you by until they finally release the Flagships or the T6 Battle Cruisers. If you are dead set on one of the two then the Yamato wins in a landslide. The Concorde is not a very good ship at all.
    Insert witty signature line here.

Of the 2, I preferred playing the Command Cruiser(s) over the Yamato.

If you care about the console sets, the CC bundle gets you 3/4 of them. Not sure if Xbox has a way to get the Kobali one that completes the set. While the Yamato one needs you to buy a cloak from the Defiant or older Dread. And unless you just gotta have a cloak, the set bonus is nothing special, while the CC set gives some nice bonuses.

And if you wanted saucer seperation on the Yamato... you have to get the old Galaxy class, I think?
And then there's the antimatter spread... I forget where that comes from. That's a set with the saucer seperation, I think. So if you get the 'need' to get all the stuff the Yamato could take advanage of, you might be buying alot of ships! :D
