science ship for tac alt

I'm looking for an end game/ fleet ship for my Rom tac alt and am considering the Science variant of the T6 Scimitar Flagship line. I find most science ships don't have the hull strength of a cruiser and I like to tank. The Flambard because it has similar stats to the other two Dreadnaught variant but has cmdr. tac seating and lt. cmdr. science seating. Does anyone have experience flying a science ship with a tac character and recommend this choice?

If you're just looking for a single toon unlock then perhaps the lockbox temporal science vessel? It can be found for around 70-80M on the exchange these days which is a bargain for a decent endgame worthy lockbox ship.

Other than that what @coldnapalm says is pretty sound advice.

Yeah, what Napalm said is pretty spot on. The Flambard isn't a 'Science Ship' it's just the science heavy version of the Scimitar line. That being said, it's a great ship for any character, especially a tactical captain.

I also prefer the Morrigu (Tier 6 Mogai) over the Scimitar, but you can't go wrong either way. The Flambard is one of the best ships in the entire game for a captain of any profession.

The Romulan real science ship does have a higher shield modifier, which is then buffed 30% by your Exotic Particle Field Exciter, plus your captain skills and any other +shield consoles. Also, all that extra shield capacity means that any percent-based heals and regeneration has more of an effect.

Add to that the quantum absorption power from the singularity and it's more sturdy than a tacship, just using shields more than hull.

If you want the full space magic experience, get a a real science ship.

The latest science ship pack is very tanky. I highly reccomend it.

Has shield tanking improved at all recently? Always used to be pointless against the Borg, and aren't there a lot more abilities that have 100% shield penetration?

The Nakuhl Lobi Science ship is a beast, plus it has intel and pilot abilities. It will be pricey though.

    I second and third this.

Honestly the Daemosh is an absolute monster of a science ship. Full sci suite of abilities, intel tricks, Lt. Cmdr. tactical boff seat, battlecloak, fast and maneuverable, high shield mod. It can do a hell of a lot of damage, either as full science or as a hybrid with energy weapons or torps.
Plus its trait is pretty nice too is you like tractor beams.

I fly Sci ships on my sci characters and tac ships on my tac characters. But I consider the Science Pilot escort something of a nice mix. For a tac. For a Sci I would just pick a pure science vessel, which one isn't really important as long as it satisfies the criteria of at least 4 sci console slots, and a Commander Sci station.

Sensor analysis, secondary deflector are things I consider nice extra and sci-ship exclusive anyway.

Basically anything with reasonable amounts of tac consoles and tac seating should do, however the Romulans only really have 1 ship in that category and its that lackluster Dyson destroyer, disregarding cross-faction ships.

And no, the Flambard is not a science vessel lol

The new faction T6 science ships are very good, and available in a fleet variant, so they're going to be an endgame ship for all my captains.
Expendables Fleet: Andrew - Bajoran Fed Engineer Ken'taura - Rom/Fed Scientist Gwyllim - Human Fed Delta Tac
Savik - Vulcan Fed Temporal Sci
    Dahar Masters Fleet: Alphal'Fa - Alien KDF Engineer Qun'pau - Rom/KDF Engineer D'nesh - Orion KDF Scientist Ghen'khan - Liberated KDF Tac

I'd say the Laosa personally. It looks and moves like an Arkif. It is a full 2nd deflector science ship (at last!). And the fleet version is a beast (eg Temporal MMS has 37 hull, Fleet Laosa has 48. ish). Flambard is a good choice, a great choice, but if you're a tac captain used to escorts you're going to find it impossible to pilot. Laeosa is midway. And leathal if you have high partgens. A Romulan science ship was a long time coming, but it was worth the wait (plus it has temporal seat on Engi, instead of Tac or Sci. You need tac and sci to be tac and sci. Engi.. well, they'll do what they are told or else lol)

Depending on what you are going for, you may not need either anyway. I've been flying my Eternal with no Tactical skills at all for months now, and I have never used a Tactical console on my Sci ships for years unless they were needed to complete a set I wanted to get.

Romulans have access to two sci ships from the c-store. The laeosa and the eternal temporal ship.

There are also the Dyson ships.

I have no idea what you are talking about. Those ships do not exist.

    LOL!

To the OP, the Eternal is a good cross-faction ship. If you do get the 31c Sci Ship, get the bundle. It's a really cheap set considering that the ships are cross-faction, and the traits and consoles are actually useful for a variety of builds. The Eternal is a very flexible sci ship and in the right hands, can tank really well.

    http://sto.gamepedia.com/Kelvin_Timeline_T'laru_Intel_Carrier_Warbird

    Shield Modifier: 1.25
    Weapons: Fore 4 Aft 2
Commander science/intel, lt cmdr universal, lt. universal, lt. engineering/temporal, lt. tactical
    4 science, 3 Engineering, 4 tac consoles
+10 power to shields and aux
    Romulan battle cloak
"press button to execute single target" console
puts four elite Romulan Drones on the field (prefer them to the KT scorpions, myself).
Gather intel ability (instead of the science sensor/subsystem targeting)

It will science things to death quite handily :).
  • lsegnlsegn Member Posts: 594 Arc User
Any ship with 3-4 science consoles and atleast a ltcmdr science can be set up to science things to death pretty easily. Its just easier on a full science vessel. If you want a tanky science ship grab the Laeosa there isn't a better one available from any faction (except of course its equivalents). If you want one of the best science ships in the game grab the Eternal. The T'laru certainly looks like a nice ship too if you like slow ships. Secondary deflectors can be very useful so keep that in mind as well.

Do you have access to the 2016 Krenim anniversary ship?

Or you could run with the Breen from the current event. Even though it's not a Sci ship (it's really a Tac) it has more than enough universal stations that you could, in theory, run it as a heavily-armed Sci.

However, neither ship is a Romulan ship so you don't get the benefit of the awesome singularity core.
