People talk about accounts having good or bad luck. We're gamers. We're superstitious that way.
When the Annorax R&D promo! resurfaced last year I thought "What the heck. It's a pretty good cash-to-lobi ratio if you buy four, so why not?"
I popped an Annorax on the third box. So I only got 30 lobi. Bummer.

When the TOS T6 temporal connie packs had their run, again I thought, "Well it's still good lobi, and who knows, I
might get monstrously lucky again..." Because that just the dumbest line of reasoning ever.
I popped a TOS ship pack
on the third box.
So just now I polished off a few Arc quests, converting the credits to 1000 zeni. I bought the new infinity RnD quad pack as is my usual wont. Time to break the streak and stop worrying about them, right?
I didn't even get to three. I popped the ship pack
on the second box this time. Now I'm left staring at the last two packs and wondering if I should crack them or sell them later. Tough call, right?

And I'm still out the 10 lobi. Soooo unfair!

At least now I know my account doesn't always trigger it on the third try... FOR SCIENCE!
(I'm sure some of the folks here have plenty of other reasons to hate me and need no prompting, but even I have to admit, that kind of luck is
surreal.)
Merry Christmas all!

Congrats on your success.. may I suggest that you go out and buy 3 lottery tickets?
Agreed and congrats. Now if you were in a D7 then I might be jealous.
Thanks! That really is the better plan, but the first two times were so comical I had to buy-in on the third round. Guess I will have a captain flying an intel Sheshar!
(just did the math in another thread and I've opened around ~670 lockboxes from which I've received 3 grand prize ships -- so on that front my luck is decidedly average.)
Thank you
Thanks
But like you, I am opening boxes for what I know is in them. Not hoping for the ship as so many do. Opened US$ 60.00 worth of boxes earlier this year and got the KT HCC on the fifth one. Rest of them had enough nice stuff in them I was able to sell it for good prices on the Exchange and kit her out with all KT weapons.
So again, congrats on your good fortune. And I sincerely hope you are enjoying this game more because of it.
I got 2 Konnies from 73 Boxes, and 1 Connie from 13 Boxes. I'm happy with whatever I get. End of the day, people gotta remember you're paying for a guaranteed prize, and you cannot really lose on these boxes. Yes the prize might be poor, but you still got something!
Oh wait...
I just don't go for that kind of pig-in-a-poke gambling. Some games call them gachapons or packs or whatever, but they're an integral part of the P2W, err, sorry I meant F2P, business model.
You know, there was a time when gamers believed in a level playing field, and considered that an integral part of good sportsmanship, which was highly valued.
You know there was a time when gamers did not make pathetic attempts to look superior to everyone else by being damned annoying and considered congratulating a fellow player being an intregal part of that good sportsmanship you mentioned.
All you've accomplished with your snarky comments is making yourself look like the southbound hatwearing end of a northbound donkey in front of everyone else. Instead of the 'better person' you so desperately want others to think you are.
Apparently jealousy now comes in flavors other than just green.
P2W!? Please explain to the masses where P2W actually appears in the most generous F2P model ever!!
more like all his luck for the next 20 yrs
while I dont hate ya, I might jealously stab you in the eye multiple times before I can control myself :P
If you don't want your boxes I'll take them. I opened 3 R&D boxes yesterday with no joy. I've got fleet refit phasers on the T6 fleet galaxy dread. If I don't get the T6 light cruiser I'm probably gonna just go for a Vengance in the Lobi store.
I love hearing these success stories of not opening alot and getting jackpot. They're inspirational. Even though the odds are ridiculously astronomical from what people say its give hope to those like me who are only going to open a 4 pack.
I'm waiting for my Dec stipend to get a 4pack, then thats it for me.
I'm pretty sure I mentioned I paid exactly nothing for my Christmas day four RnD packs, right? If you manage your Arc launcher properly you should be "earning" about 22 cents a day and can cash out every $5. I essentially get as many "free zeni" per month as a lifetimer. A little more, actually.
If the game had a thriving PvP environment I might let the fact it's absolutely a pay4advantage environment bother me (not that I consider the term a dirty vile thing to begin with). But STO's value to me is for what it is, a PvE sci-fi space and ground combat simulator and the only e-peen measuring I see a need for is against the scenarios themselves, not other players. My joy comes from the building of ships and the execution of their abilities in play. If Cryptic keeps the lights on by asking me to buy stuff individually, ok. I understand the deal and I choose to accept it (to varying degrees) going forward. And while you can make a big fuss about the initial faucet for some those additional tools being a random box, fact is the exchange is WELL POPULATED and if you want to buy something for in-game currency it is almost certainly there to be bought. If you want to spend some real money to gain in-game currency and then buy the non-random thing, you can do that too. Or you can -- eyes wide open about the odds and the entirety prize list -- buy the random boxy things. I didn't buy any of the RnD packs for (or even expecting) the ship. I bought them for the entirely NOT RANDOM lobi because $8 for 40 lobi is a decent deal even compared to regular lock boxes where you get prize AND lobi.
People come on to report their sub-par results all the time. But I also think people need to hear that above average performance happens too. And above all, I'd like for the player base to have as clear and level an understanding of what the pay out tables actually mean, before make an informed decision going in.
And while I may now joke "In my personal experience the Infinity RnD boxes have a 50/50 chance of dropping a ship token" which is absolutely true, I just couldn't keep a straight face for very long before I'd also have to admit "but my sample size is very, very small. Like, two."
I failed magnificently on the Phoenix boxes
I wouldn't have known what do with a Tier II ticket. Get a Voth ship, I guess. The best use I could think of for tier I ticket would be to get the T6 Breen ship I don't have access to and make one of my captains the designated "full Breen experience" captain with a full set of frozen consoles, etc. Probably my TOS Andorian. The idea of her commanding a ship where she could set the temperature to something reasonable appeals to my in-game logic
Still, I look forward to bleeding dilithium like a stuck pig the next time the Phoenix Box promotion comes around!
Seems fair. While I would defend myself, I wouldn't blame you for it
There was a bit of a blow up about four years ago in the LotRO forums that the Pseudo-random number generator seed was tied to a Character's internal database number. And because of that there were some Characters were luckier than others.
I don't believe anything ever came of it.
l don't know.
l really don't know what l'm about to say, except l have a feeling about it.
That l must repeat the words that come without my knowledge.'
Hopefully I'm not gloating too much
Really, other people winning is something I look forward to. Happy players improve my gameplay experience. However, if we do need specific times for the hate, lets go with Mondays. There's plenty of hate to go around on Mondays. I don't mind soaking up a little of it
And to those who asked or wished me well: yes, I think having a Sheshar will increase my enjoyment of the game
After that I just need the Undine ship pair and I'll have played pretty much every species I was hoping to experience when I came back to the game just over a year ago
And the good news for some is now that I have a Sheshar, it means I'll probably put the T6 TOS box up for sale soon, because I know there's other people who want that ship experience more than they want a billion-something in Ec, while I want the credits more than the ship. Win-win.
Six is quite Sinister too, especially in comics and more so at Marvel.
