shamshir vs khopesh

What is the practical difference other than consoles between the Romulan Shamshir and Khopesh Dreadnaughts? It appears the bridge officer config is the same even though the Shamshir is engineering and the Khopesh is tactical. I would expect the Shamshir to have a commander engineering but I opened mine up and it has a commander tactical like the Khopesh. What am I missing as far as difference?

The Khopesh has a Lieutenant Universal and Lieutenant Engineering while the Shamshir has an Ensign universal and Lieutenant Commander Engineering. They also have different power bonuses and ship traits.

Have you considered the Science version? It seems to have the best boff and console layout of the three.

When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.

I see the Shamshir has a Lt. Cmr seating & Khopesh only has a lt. engineering setup. Hmmm. No lt. commander seating other than universal on the Khopesh. Looks like the Samshir is the more versatile ship.

They are just placeholders to retrieve the flagship console set (along with the Krenim science vessel) and use it on the Flambard. No practical use, despite the tac one is kinda fine, although you don't want any of them regardless.

I'll check out the BOFF config. Thanks. So Steelmax, you don't like any of the variants other than access to the consoles? What ship do you use?

You can ignore him, he's either trolling or he has no clue what he's talking about. The Tactical and Science variants are both fantastic ships. The Engineering one isn't bad either, just the tactical and science versions are both superior.
    Insert witty signature line here.

I do like the science variant due to the reason you can squeeze out more DPS out of it in comparison to the tactical one that has extra useless tac consoles and lt.comm tactical seating which isn't great. You really want the lt.comm science seat to slot more science dakka (GW1/FBP2). In conjuction with 5x fleet plasma exploders and FBP2 (boosted by the krenim trait), and the full 4pts flagship set on top of that... oh boy, I shouldn't mention the 300k DPS record.

@seaofsorrows Unfortunately for you, I do know. You are either getting the Skimitar for DPS, or you are not getting it at all.

IIRC the science one gets sensor analysis which does increase your DPS considerably.... assuming you're shooting a single target and don't change targets.

Thanks for your thoughts guys. I play a tank style and like the Shamshir for the lt. cmr. engineering seating. I'm surprised the other two variants are superior as I have found the Shamshir a fabulous ship so far. I like the comments on the science variant as it has the same hull strength as the other variants and does have sensor powers. I do NOT have the Krenim event ship and don't have all three flagships. So the consoles really aren't a draw unless they're a must have and few things in this game are a must have for me. I can see pairing the adaptive console of the Shamshir with the science console for good hull and shield heals/ resists. I'm playing a tac character and am just used to clunky cruisers that are engineering heavy. A science ship might be a way to go at end game. With the Flamberd you have great hull, sensors, Rom frigates, great science seating and secondary deflector. Your thoughts?

I plan to eventually grind out the mastery on all of them for the traits. Why? Why not? Hehe, hard to guess what I will have areason to use later.
