upgrading gear after level 60

So I'm at level 60 on a couple of my characters and wanted to get your thoughts on the most effective upgrade path forward. I know the game is changing a bit recently w/ K13.

I have my level 60 characters all in fleets and have Mark XII VR crafted gear. I have NOT done reputations or gone to Fleet holdings. I could try to upgrade my Mark XII to Mark XIV UR or Epic. That seems a waste of resources. I think crafted gear is useful for story line content but falls short for STFs. Your thoughts on that.

I could replace my ships with Fleet variants and start grinding for Fleet gear to replace everything.

I could start Red Alerts and grind reputation gear which may be better than crafted, story line or Fleet.

In your view, what is the more effective/ efficient path forward for end game power and flexibility upgrades? Thanks

For Weapons, Crafted is the way to go so you can get the PEN Mod as mentioned above. Craft beams/cannons at Mark II VR until you get one with the mods you want, then upgrade that item from Mark II so that you get the maximum amount of chances to upgrade rarity.

For Deflectors, Impulse, and Shield I go rep all the way. Warp Core depends on your build either fleet or Rep.

Consoles are a mix. For Tactical Consoles in DPS builds you want the Fleet Locator Consoles. Science Consoles are also mostly Fleet Store and the rest are a mix of C-Store and crafted.

Overall, you're going to use just about every source, what you're going to use and where depends on what you're trying to do.

I crafted my weapons before the PEN mod was put in the game. I think there's a K13 console that adds PEN to all weapons, saving a tone on resources. Is that the case?

So if there is not a console that adds PEN to all weapons it might be4 worth it to craft new weapon sets for all alts. Should I upgrade PEN crafted weapons to Mk XIV Epic then. Seems like a ton of resources.

PEN may have been around in the crafting system but it wasn't a big deal until recently. it used to be accuracy & crits back when I crafted my weapons.
Do the K13 consoles give PEN to all weapons?

It looks to me from the input here that crafted weapons are the way to go although fleet weapons give x3 mods and if the consoles give PEN fleet weapons seem the way to go.

Consoles from fleet holdings and space sets from reputation/ missions. I think that's a plan. Still need clarity on the weapons.

ACC has only ever been good in PVP. It's never been a good PVE Mod.

The Fleet Weapons with [CrtD][Dmg]x3 are also pretty nice. They come in Mark XII UR so just pop a few upgrades to take them to mark XIV and they easily punch through anything this game can throw at you. That's what I use on my Alts when I don't feel like playing the lottery with Weapon Mods from the Crafting system.

I don't know of a K-13 console that adds Pen to your weapons, I haven't really even looked at any of that stuff yet, sorry.

as my 3 main characters are the only ones I would bother to upgrade gear for and they were already high level with mostly mk12 rare better gear when they introduced mk13 - mk14 plus upgrading I have only mostly upgraded the gear they already had.

I did try crafting once and upgraded the crafted item to mk14 but at the end I was left with an item that was no better then anything I had already that being mk14 rare and it cost me far more dilithium, tech upgrades and such to get there then if I had just upgraded a mk12 rare or better that I had already anyway.

for this reason I have never really bothered crafting any more gear and only really use crating for creating tech upgrade that I use to upgrade anything I have that is at least mk12 and of rare or better quality before I start.

also there is just so many good quality special sets in the game that you can pick up sometimes from mission rewards or from the reputation store that is far better then anything you will ever craft for yourself anyway plus other good mk12 rare or better items from mission rewards that can be upgraded.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
