31st Cent. pets & build

What do you think of the Epoch 31st Cent. pets? They are antiproton and I'm told I need an antiproton build to support them. I've never based a build on a pet. Your thoughts?

I always just take 1-hangar slots as a freebie (except with the T6 Akira but then you've got one special pilot ability which you can build around pets for.) It certainly wouldn't hurt to go AP, but I'd build your Chronos as you would your preferred cruiser.

As far as that goes, you're stuck with a beam build on that ship so you just want to pick up the best AP you can (exchange or fleet, depending on what resources you have.) Tac consoles: fleet spire AP (+crit chance).

So I take it that your build doesn't have to match the energy type of your pet. If you have tac consoles of the same energy type as your pet does it help them. I wouldn't think so. I could replace the Epochs with Swarmers and see how that works. Is there a reason to keep the Epochs?

Other than matched visuals, you don't need an AP build if your pets use AP. The only-ever console I know of that boosts your pets, is the Tholian Tetryon Grid (adds 2 extra beams to your mesh weavers). But it's a clickety effect, so not a permanent boost.

For me, the feature that stands out the most of Epoch fighters is that the Advanced and Elite versions come with Channeled Deconstruction to build entropy on enemies. This makes it a bit easier to run entropy-consuming temporal boff powers like Timeline Collapse, or maybe Entropic Redistribution to spread the pain to enemies the fighters don't target, or to fuel Causal Reversion healing. Only two ships can use Epoch fighters, and they both have Commander Temporal seating (and an Lt. seat).

I would recommend using Epochs on the Eternal-class Temporal Multi-Mission Science Vessel if you're going for a science/Temporal EPG-based build where any additional source of entropy can be handy. It's a science vessel first, that hanger slot's pretty much a bonus, so you might as well pick a pet that has synergy with its specialty seating.

On the Chronos-class Dreadnought Cruiser, well, I haven't used that ship much and I'm not sure what the best use of entropy would be on a big cruiser. Still, the Alita ship trait lets you share Beam Overload with fighters that carry beam arrays and Elite Epochs come with BFAW, which can be amusing. If you're just grinding through for the ship trait, there's no harm in keeping the default fighters.

As far I know, pet damage is only affected by a few captain skills, traits, and unlocks. Most (nearly all?) consoles and ship equipment don't do much for them.

Edit: Only two ships can use any kind of Epoch. A detail worth looking into for any pet.
