Character Models

Somehow, I have a hard time getting my player character to look right, and I really wish there were character models for crewmembers to look like those seen in the various series. Could someone help me model my crewmembers after various television crewmembers?

I think I'm pretty sure making characters that look like the actors is against the TOS of the game.

Could you explain to me just what you're using the abbreviation "TOS" to mean? Usually, it refers to "The Original Series." If you mean "Terms of Service," there is nothing that goes against my request, and I have seen players modify the appearance of crewmembers to look exactly like the actual television characters.

I would be very surprised if trying to make your character look as much as an original character would violate any TOS points. On the other hand it is clear that Cryptic doesn't want to have a gazillion of Kirks flying Enterprises (thus why certain names are disabled), so I very much doubt they would change the creator to allow for better copies. I have seen some somewhat recognizable efforts though.

    TOS means the original series...
    when you're talking about shows.
In STO, TOS has to do with the Temporal Agent Captain storyline - which starts in 23c, the date of the original series, thus 'TOS', even though it isn't really.

As for the Character Models. Don't aim for facial reconstruction, as that is indeed illegal and requires licensing. Aim instead for a pleasing appearance you can live with. Then target your outfit to get the look you want. The trick is the colors you get to choose from and what clothing items you have unlocked to use, as well as what Faction/Species your Captain is. Some things are NOT available to all species/Factions. Others you have to acquire and unlock via stores, events, or bloody luck.

As far as this goes, ask away! Thousands of players have been through this process. Any of them can not only tell you how they did it, but some on the forum might actually provide images of the character they are referring to, as well as the Tailor specs to get that particular 'look'.

    Just ask, OP.

    Like this:

ANYONE WANT TO PROVIDE AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT 'OUTFIT' HE'S LOOKING FOR?! (ignore face/body issues and focus on outfit only.)

Hope this helps, OP! Good luck! :)

Actually, if you take a look-see at Cryptic's TOS you will find no such restriction.

When you buy your first Foundry slot, you are required to agree to a separate, Foundry-specific TOS, which prohibits the creation of "New Game Materials to depict a likeness of any real person (historical or present day)."

However, in the game proper, it's perfectly OK if you wanted to model your PC after yourself or to take four hours painstakingly making your Android Engineering Bridge Officer, Lieutenant Byte, look as close as possible to the appearance of a younger Brent Spiner as Lt. Cmdr. Data.

You can get close, but not exact. no one would mistake your boff for a Soong type android, with out the reference. In any case, I think he was wanting exact. Approx? Approx is okay as long as it doesn't also use the reference to a TM name/face, etc. That's where the problem lies. But all players are allowed to do as they will within the confines of the game parameters. They use 'licensed' character models for the NPCs in the game, but do not give players all those options to make them easily recognizable.

Thanks. Took me quite a while to get right.... Google image searches to find early-season Datas at every angle and Alt-Tabbing between pics and game.

STO character creation is just too good not to make that. once i though i had created perfect g'kar with my own motto "i lost my universe". well i didnt put enough time in that... but i still believe its doable.

as for the first question. use pose when character look on right and left and than use the right moment for snapshot.
and ask google. there might be some settings for characters. i did see some of those around especially from people who wanted recreate some races you can't play.
