Player gathering: December 6, 2016...

Where: Ker'rat, Level 10+ zone.
What: Opening of the "Ironman Challenge".
Who: Low-level alts, new players looking to clear that "PvP tutorial" mission, and volunteers from the PvP community.

What is the "ironman challenge"? It's simple. Some of us have voluntarily created alts intended to level solely through PvP from level 10 to level 60, and voluntarily abstained from using resources from our existing alts (specifically crafted goods, lobi items, etc. etc) as part of a long-term experiment.

What we're offering, is fair matches at low level for people who aren't already obsessive PvP'ers. We'll also be offering assistance in ship setup, basic methods, how to set up your ship for PvP at low level, and assistance for anyone interested in exploring the fun that can be had.

The long term goal, is to show people that PvP isn't just a realm of walletwarriors, noobstompers and gankers, we intend to bring back the accessibility and fun of this alternative format in the STO game menu.

Call it a "Community outreach and rebuild".

I started the "Sign up" down in the PvP board, and we've gotten some good response from established PvP'ers and PvP experts, along with interested casual players.

so, now it's time to announce it to the rest of you, and let you know we'll be there if you want to dip your toe into it in a way that doesn't cost hundreds of hours of grinding specs, gear, and fleets just to be viable.

Each volunteer has offered a minimum of an hour a week on their "Ironman" alt, which means that for you who are casuals, that's a guaranteed opponent or ally, ready to step up and give you a fight, some free advice, and a challenging game that isn't going to be horribly unbalanced.

who knows, if you like the experience, you might also take up the Ironman challenge.

If response is strong enough, we'll look into forming a fleet for volunteers so they're easily identified as volunteers, but for right now, I'm only looking at seeing if we have people show up on the day in question.

Hope to see a bunch of you there.

This is a noble goal, and I salute your effort.

Sadly, I think it's doomed because of the other PVPers who are pathetic and honorless bullies who do delight in "winning" against new players. Once noobs leave your event and try to PUG PVP, they will become fresh meat for the scum.

Do you have a TS server available to those who are interested? I would create an alt for this but doing something like this through chat would keep me out of it.

Only downside I see is there WILL be some TRIBBLE-hat clowns that will try and ruin the whole experience for everyone. I am all for the event although I have no money for more character slots nor a low enough character to help with the event. I really hope the event doesn't turn out to be another ganker's wet dream. PVP needs a shot in the arm, since the devs have left it to rot. I do wish everyone the best of luck.

I reccomend a discord server, we are using them in my fleet and over at The Science Channel and it's immensely superior to Teamspeak and free. It works on any device type mobile or otherwise, has a nice messageboard feature for group text chat and voice channels. I think they're integrating webcam features too.

Best part is it works directly from the website or an IOS/Android App so you don't need to download a PC client at all.

Any guidelines in bringing an existing, higher-level character to this event or others like it? I have toons running the gamut from a passably-equipped BoP w/torps to my main with gold stuff all over and representatives of most major ship types unlocked. Last time I did any PvP was a duel with a fleetmate a year ago, and the last time I set foot in Ker'rat was pre-DR when I was dabbling in a healer setup on my Bastion.

If there's a dearth of a particular ship type, I should be able to reconfigure one or another alt to fit the bill, e.g. my romulan sci/sci drainer. The only thing I can't do is bring an 'ironman' alt, and the only thing I don't want to see are 15/0 losses that sour people on the prospect.

As long as you fit the 10-19 range and aren't running unrealistic gear compared to the ironman requirements, you should be fine.
