Thanks, already have the Ground Spike Radiation Crystal from the last one, don't need another ground weapon reward. I was hoping it would cycle back to the Antiproton Torp since we have another energy torp reward coming soon in Echos of Light. Now since these events have been around for a while, I think it's time you let the player decide. It would be more of an incentive, that's for sure. Sound good?
Should have been more specific: the Crystal was the last ground weapon. So you would rather not be able to pick from the current or past event rewards?
I think he's talking about the Crystalline Spike Ground Module.
The Rising of the Delta is the best expansion ever, and people love it to death because it is a good day to die in the endless struggle for supremacy of your own conviction. (A spin off of the Delta Rising is the best expansion ever and all the players love it.)
Should have been more specific: the Crystal was the last ground weapon. So you would rather not be able to pick from the current or past event rewards?
When did they offer the new ground weapon Crystal Radiation Projector?
as a long time player I have no objection to this and personally I think offering a choice of reward in a reward box similar to how you get a choice of marks is a good idea but the choice would need to be from past rewards from that event rather then from all these kind of mini events, indeed it is possible that all of these mini events would have a bigger uptake if past rewards from those events were offered as a choice as well as the latest shiny.
this would only apply to these mini event rewards and not to ship event rewards as the ship rewards are account unlocks where as these rewards are not.
I doubt cryptic would go for this though but it doesn't hurt to ask.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
So you would rather not be able to pick from the current or past event rewards?
Not necessarily talking about this special request, but in general with many of these suggestions: yes, I would rather be limited in many of the options suggested here, and everybody else, too. Because giving everybody everything per choice would be a blow to the concept of rewards in a certain way. So I don't think that argument holds water.
In this special case though (being able to choose a past reward instead of the current one) I wouldn't mind.
My mother was an epohh and my father smelled of tulaberries
I do wish, but know I can't, slot that antiproton console rather than that new ground weapon. I was unable to get online for a myriad of reasons during the last run. It's fine, though. I'm not going to whine about it. Thems the breaks,
*Thinks for a moment*
The Cochrane Shotgun came out before the Terran Lockbox gave us the 2409 Terran uniforms which led me to create a 'Terran' character, I don't think I'd mind having a chance to get them that reward...
Actually, if you think about it, they really should rerun some of the older rewards since AoY and (for some) LoR/Romulan characters weren't necessarily around for some of the older events and thus even if the player did on other characters, they wouldn't have had a chance to earn those older rewards...

Here's an idea. When you complete the event, you get the following choice. Unlock the current reward account wide, or, unlock one of the previous rewards bound to character. The previous rewards would have to be rewards from that same event. This would still give the veterans an advantage, and it would motivate us newer players to do the events with even more of our characters.
Once we got the reward from the current event, I have no issue running it again for a reward that was offered in the past version of the event. Yes, keep the choice reward character bound, which would give incentive to grind out the event for each character, but also lower the requirements to get the past reward to 5-10 crystals instead of 15-20 since you would only be able to claim one, maybe two if you were lucky.

You'd think this logic would be found sensible by the devs, but nope. They just like that whole "Exclusivity" they have going because "It worked for keeping interest in the Winter and Summer events".

Which is ironic considering part of the interest in the Seasonal Events is that there's always something new to do; "Tides of Ice", Sand Castles, "Sun Sand and Scavenging", Defending the Gingerbread town with the Sno-conian - it's never just "come in, fight CE/Terrans/whatever, rinse and repeat until you get reward", there's other things to keep players coming to Risa and QWW...

Pretty much. If this is the only time you can ever earn a particular reward there's greater impetus to playing the game now, not whenever there happens to be another event. Personally, I wouldn't go this route, but simply in terms of keeping players interested in playing now there is logic behind the system (which mattes to devs.)
Account unlocks (a la event ships) do seem to be in order though.
1. It makes what we earn through these events have greater value (which is good from the devs point of view, more motivation for us to play)
2. The precedent is already established.
3. It would be nice.
The question may just be dedicating some time/manpower to implement it. We can assume that it'd be relatively minor update but it still requires the change to make it onto the list of "things the devs have scheduled to work on." So let's just keep banging on about it, maybe eventually making these account unlocks will work its way in. :P

Yep, I like this and it should be applied to all PvE special events or at least the older ones that have a good number of special rewards to choose from.

Yes, OK with the awards box containing all previous awards from past CC Events and you get to choose one. I think, but I maybe wrong, they do that with the Marks awards. They let you choose which Reputation Mark you want. But I really don't know if that Technology is beyond their capabilities.

items are unique so what happens if you choose an item you already have? flood of gm requests and tons of b!tching and complaining...
rather they do the account unlocks and let newer toons claim the items and leave it exclusive... yes newer accounts that start up after wont be able to get the items unless they re-run the event or recycle the reward.
You can't select another Unique Item. The game won't let you.

There is logic behind exclusive-ing the current and future ships. But for retroactively doing it to ships from previous years (2012-2014), that does not apply since the rule wasn't in effect when those ships were available.
On the other hand, logic or no logic, practical considerations are another thing entirely. I doubt the average player is actually planning a year ahead. If a player doesn't want the ship now, they probably won't think they'll be wanting it next year either. There will of course be some players who don't actually want the ship, but will get it anyway just because it's not going to be available later, but the real question is is there enough of those to offset the number of players who would earn multiple ships if they could. Or in other words, is the net effect positive?
Only Cryptic/PWE has those stats.

I disagree. Account unlocks (or rather the discounts that were the precursor to them) were what led to the problems with the winter/summer events in the first place. When it was 1,000 tokens per ship, there was no hoarding problem, no "get it next year" problem and no exclusivity problem. Everything would be much better if, instead of the jury-rigged "solution" of summer 2015, they'd have just reversed the account discount as the failed experiment that it was.
The only change I may have made to the original rules would've been making the ship boxes tradeable for some bit of extra incentive to run the event even if you don't need/want anymore ships yourself.
As long as crystal/mirror/etc events don't have account unlocks, it would work beautifully for them to give access to all the extant rewards to choose from. Reasons to play the event more, fairness toward new players/toons, ability to get multiple copies of a reward where it makes sense (like spare shotguns for boffs), etc.
Account unlocks (or rather the discounts that were the precursor to them) were what led to the problems with the winter/summer events in the first place.
Which was fixed with the year amended to the item. No reason why it cant be done with CE or MI as well. You can then use the horded turn in items on Spec Points or R&D Materials or emotes...
I don't have any problem with the idea of offering a choice of reward for competing in the event but I am definitely against the idea of an account unlock on rewards.
many have suggested this would increase participation by I see it reducing participation in that some who might play 2, 3 or more characters to get the reward for each would only need to play with 1 character to get it on all.

I'm pretty sure that's the idea. Instead of burning ourselves out trying to get the shiny on multiple alts, we could just get it over with on one character.
Cryptic still cranks out Winter/Summer/Anniversary ships despite being able to acquire them all on 1 character instead of each one on your account.

I disagree with the idea that was a problem. The "solution" ultimately was to prevent grinding in advance. Over the course of any given event you'd only need to participate once, and for that "price" we no longer had to participate N times over in order to enjoy the ship on N characters. There's now simply a single annual grind, regardless of how you chose to use (or not use) multiple characters. And as a bonus, there's also greater context for what we earn since now it's equipping every character we make from now on too, not just the participants or the larger group of characters that were around at the time.
So we preserve the N-times-over grind just to make that grind more, what, sporting?
Allowing old projects to be slotted is something I don't have any strong reason to say no to, but it's missing the forest through the trees to be arguing for serial grinding that multiplies itself for every relevant character you have for an event (shouldn't gameplay quality enter consideration somewhere?) , which it should be stated isn't always a clear choice. At present I'm grinding the current event four times because while I know that some characters can use the ground weapon I don't know which ones will ultimately get the most out of it...because I haven't used it yet, and I don't know exactly my builds will change over the long term to modify the equation. So to be on the safe side I'm playing 4 times through.
For CC, that's tolerable, but if this were the Voth assault or Mirror Invasion I'd be making uncomfortable compromises to get the 2 or 3 most likely candidates through. That playtime could also easily exceed my ability to tolerate (fortunately I wasn't inclined to grind more than once last time), which in other word means burning out for a while. That is the [personal] failure state for an MMO. No quibbles, it's a red flag. Any little positive feelings you may get in carefully selecting grinding participants is moot by comparison. Sorry to say that, but this is a rather lopsided situation. For people who actively use multiple characters, the lack of account unlocks on the PVE events can be a real problem (especially now that we know a perfectly acceptable solution exists through the event ship unlocks.)

Using Infinity rewards for events does not increase sales. Don't count on it.
Cryptic has already monetized the Event ships through the Lobi Store so it would be easy to monetize the Mirror Universe and Crystalline Entity events. Especially with the number of Event Rewards available and the limited amount of time to get them. Playing the Event every day only gives 1.5 Event Rewards per run.

even players who just have too many alts to do them all are still likely to do as many as they can to get the shiny for at least those characters where as if they only had to play one character to get the shiny reward for all its very doubtful they would bother to play others though some might for the bonus dilithium but all in all this would result in a serious reduction on the total amount of times the mission was played overall.
this would be bad for cryptic and for the players, bad for cryptic as it would reflect a massive drop on their metrics that are calculated not by the amount of characters collecting the prize but the amount of times the mission is played, and bad for the players as it would make it much longer waiting to form a team big enough to play the mission.
you only have to look at what the seasonal zones are like especially noticeable on the winter zone, it was nothing for me to have to que up to do the winter race for the ship behind 6 or more other players where as now its very rare to have to que at all since they made the ships an account unlock, theres just not enough incentive to do the mission on extra characters after the ship is taken out of the equation.

That kind of defeats the whole point of the event. It's not to give our rewards, it's to give people something to do.
Especially this event, which takes less than 5 minutes to. Even if you have 20 alts, you'd be doing it about 2 hours a day. But if you only did it once, then what's the point? a 5 minute a day event?
