T5-U Question

n00b question, but whatever: can you upgrade your T5 to a T5-U at level 40, or do you have to wait until level 50? I waited until level 50 because I thought I had to, but now I'm curious.

Thanks.

You can upgrade a ship at level 40, pending it is upgrade compatible.

If you grab a T5 from the Event store, you can upgrade them as soon as you unpack them and go to the ship selector, even at level 40. If you've plunked down the space monies for a very-rare main-prize lockbox or Lobi T5 ship, you can upgrade at level 40. I've not tested the 'secondary prize' low-end lockbox ships that require a token to upgrade (APU, Mesh Weaver, etc.), but if you can open them at 40, they should be upgradeable then too.

Yes. Though most faction specific lvl 40 ships aren't upgradeable, it's mostly event & lockbox/lobi ships there with a hand full of exceptions.

Here is list of playable ships in STO (scroll the page down until paragraph "Types" and then press the "show" by Faction name) - the list shows which ones are upgradeable...

If i remember correctly, the normal "leveling" ships (the ones that costs dilithium or leveling token) are not upgradeable.
Most Zen-store T5 ships (but not all - i think), all Event T5 ships, and all primary Lobi/Lockbox T5 ships (the ones with special consoles) should be upgradeable, regardles of requirement level 40, 45 or 50...

The Fleet versions of the normal "leveling" ships are upgradeable so it is possible to have a T5-U Fleet Star Cruiser. The only Tier 5 C-Store ship that isn't upgradeable is the Temporal Battlecruiser, but that is due to being the only "Tier 5 - Level 40" C-Store ship and the Tier 6 Temporal Battlecruiser is able to look just like it. The rest of the Tier 5 C-Store ships are all labelled as "Tier 5 - Level 50".

Okay, that answers my question

So, for instance, I first used the Chimera, which is free to upgrade--I could have upgraded it to T5-U at lvl40 as soon as I acquired it. Good to know for my KDF/Rom playthroughs.
