C-Store Boffs

Bought two T6 ships last night on PS4 and have enough change left over to pick edup a Boff from the C-Store. Choices are Liberated Borg, Aenar and Caitian.

I'd like an Android for my science ship but since I don't see any, figured the Liberated Borg would be a good substitute. However the store says little about the item and Wiki offers nothing on it. The Aenar and Caitain looks like I can use with any character, set up as male or female, science, engineering or tactic and reclaim if needed.

With the Borg, it looks like you TRIBBLE up with the item, you'll lose it and won't be able to get it back. They make it look like you'd have to buy a new one for your character. Can anyone fill me in on how this Boff is used? Can I use it for multiple characters, create male or female or different choices to skill set? Can I reclaim it for a character if needed?

Thanks!

C-Store Boffs are per character only and yes, you can't reclaim if you dismiss ANY of them, not just the Lib Borg. I do use the Borg myself on my main as she has Warp Efficiency skill.

The Borg Boff comes in a package, which can be traded as long as you don't open it.

So you can send it to any character you wish. Once you open it, it's bound to that character. You can't really TRIBBLE up with the item as you put it.

This is the same for all special Boffs: once claimed, they're bound to that character and if you dismiss them you'll lose them and then you will have to buy a new one.

The Borg Boff is always a female and she's always an engineering officer.

I wouldn't get the Aenar to be honest. He has a trait that cannot be deactivated and which will create a clone.

This clone which cannot fight will seek out enemies on his own, even if they're 30-40 kilometers away. So he'll actively lure enemies towards you which can be quite annoying in battlezones and such since you'll end up fighting enemies that you could just have ignored otherwise.

I bought one a long time ago and I still consider it the worst purchase I have ever made (and I've purchased a lot of things in this game so that is saying something). He's as capable in space and on the ground as any officer, but this trait simply ruins whatever tactics you might have in mind since it cannot be controlled or disabled at all.

The liberated borg is a good choice even if it does have an outdated space trait. I never had an Aenar but risian's suggestion makes me agree that the Aenar might be less desirable. I'm not into the whole cat thing, so I wouldn't get a Caitian.

I think what it comes down to OP, is what do you want? It may be best to just do what makes you happy in this case.
When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.

I think that should always be the most important thing, what would you like to have or do? It's a game and if you don't (or, after some time, won't) derive pleasure from it, don't do or buy it.

    Good advice there, salazarraze.

Thanks for the replies. I'm thinking about the Borg character for fun. It would fit in with my background stories and my crews for my main and an alt. I was hoping to use it for both so now I have to decide whether it work out better for my main or my alt.

Will make note for Aenar and clone as that was a second consideration as it would mess up my ground combat style. I have no interest in the Caitians.

As for TRIBBLE up the purchase with the boff, yes I could mess it up as too many times in my gaming I have hit the wrong button trying to back out of something and lost items. :o Generally they are recoverable and cost no real money, in this case sounds like it is not. Still not a huge deal as item is $5 bucks. Costs me more when the kids leave all the lights on or doors open when the heat or air is running. :#

Anyway, thanks again. Looking to have fun with this character once I decide where I will use her. Good to know she is an engineer always. Will likely fit better with my alt as the ships I will be using will have multiple engineering seats.

You could also use the money on other things like more account bank slots or more duty officer slots.

Nice thing is Christmas isn't that far away and I usually get a Playstation gift card so I can use that to buy the aforementioned items. Bank slots for now as doffs aren't available for PS4 yet. No date as to when either.

Still I haven't found much reason yet to have a lot of bank slots. All necessary items are either on characters or the ships through missions I play. Haven't even used the one bank slot yet and I have two characters at 47 & 50 now. Mail has been fine for me. I'm not big into crafting nor do I need the absolutely best dps setup out there. MkXII is fine for me. I'd rather have the challenge of piloting to survive instead of 10 second kills. Since playing advanced or elite brings no special / higher level rewards from what I have been told, I likely won't play those modes unless what I heard about rewards is not true.

Maybe need more character slots at some point. Have to see how long I play this game. Most I've played a game is 1 yr and that was Battlefield. Usually it is 3 months max for a game. Maybe STO will become the exception. I'm hoping so.

There's also the Romulan liberated borg in the lobi store, so although it's a slightly different flavour in terms of career and some traits, you can technically have two liberated borg crew (technically three if you have access to the one from the early Borg missions and technically four if you have a Captain who is liberated borg).

Khitomer in stasis, also known as KAGA.

Not sure if the normal one also gives it, I don't think it does but I've seen many people play it and saying that they're there for the BOFF so...

It should be noted that the Khitomer liberated Borg is fresh out of the alcove... so he's still got all his bits attached and can't be customised.

The one from khitomer is a sci male only, but ive also heard on console you all do not have the borg stfs yet so he may not be available to you. And ti answer the question above it does not have to be advanced.
