In a sense, yes. PC side, there is the Star Fleet Battles group. They're still around, and design their ships as close to Star Trek canon as is possible in the game.

On PC i know several fleets and channels who will happily do runs in T1 or T2 ships. Even when geared with all epic stuff they provide a decent challenge, especially doing the elite PVE queues like Counterpoint or Procyon 5.
Well sure I understand the need to nerf oneself at times however when playing a mmorpg doing so over the gear somehow feels wrong and counterproductive for me.
I think the best way to nerf oneself is to do so indirectly and that by the selected team one runs with. Teaming up with a good friend or two and then just queue up in the hope for some bad pugs works best. It brings live to pve, a challenge to me and some encouragement to the newbes.
Even ISA and CCA have still the potential to become challenging for me but only if I’m at least 2-3 times better than the other players in team.

I've recently come back and haven't played since the skill revamp and although I only play missions/patrols on the default difficulty (normal/easy), I've seen how 'very easy' it has now become.
I used to nerf myself just to keep the game interesting because I enjoyed it how it was. I didn't want to increase the difficulty because then ground missions would have felt like a chore, and simply not fun (I really hate humanoid damage-sponges, ship sponges I can tolerate). I spent a few hours testing yesterday, all that's changed with my build is my new skill points, but that has made a really big difference. Now I really don't need to heal and out of all the games/patrols I've played, the only time I've been 'in trouble' was when an NPC used a shield drain on me lol.
I wanna get back to where I was but I'm not sure how (don't wanna do anything too drastic like respec, because i still wanna do queues) guess I'm just gonna have to rip out a few consoles.

One easy thing you can do is take commando for your secondary spec.
Right away that will limit some of the space passives you can get from equipping Specs.

And jump into a T1 or T2 as Lordsteve mentioned.
Good idea on the spec change, I'll give that a look, thanks.
Like I mentioned I really don't like damage sponges in ground combat (I think it's more fun to have a lot of weak enemies than to have a few tough sponges) so hopefully going commando (lol) will make me tougher in ground combat. That's my main problem, with space combat I know there's a lot I can do to increase my DPS, but with Ground combat it just seems there isn't much you can do to make you tougher and more powerful. Before the nerf I'd increased my rifle to MK14 and still wasn't 1 shotting the average goon (though that isn't something I'd want)
The only other problem is...before the skill changes we had everything around the same difficulty, battle zones, foundry missions and normal missions. If I increase the ground DPS I'm doing then I could pretty much make ground missions how it was before (killing mobs in roughly 3 to 4 shots) but then in the other content like battle zones I'm gonna be over powered.
I'll give the T1 and T2 ships a miss as I play a Rom and already have my favourite ship, I had already looked through lower class ships and there's nothing I like there more than my Malem

For real... what's the status on that?
