Just levelled to 50 on my first character in Federation and was thinking of getting the Tactical Command Battlecruiser - Presidid Class while the sale is on for 2400 ZEN but was wondering if you can change the hanger bay ship it comes with to any Federation small craft. It says it comes with a Type-8 Shuttle.
Also if you can have any Fed small craft which one is best to have with that battlecruise? I'm playing on PC if that makes any difference.

Infinite possibilities have implications that could not be completely understood if you turned this entire universe into a giant supercomputer.
Specifically -
Type 8 Shuttles with the Type 10 Shuttles and Elite type 10 Shuttles being the better, rarer versions.
Peregrine Fighters, with the Advanced and Elite versions being the better and rarer ones.
Danube Runabouts, Advanced Danube Runabouts and Yellowstone Runabouts being the better, rarer versions,
Delta Flyers, the Advanced and Elite versions being better and rarer ones,
Shield Repair units with the Reinforced and Armored versions being the better and rarer ones (yes these are basically shuttles that will heal your shields, or a friend if you target them and select the 'escort' or 'defend' hanger command).
Typically the standard Blue (rare) versions are available from the equipment vendors for ECs.
The purple Advanced / Type 10 / Reinforced versions are available from the Dilithium store for dilithium.
The Elite / Armored versions being available from a vendor on the Fleet Starbase with Tier 5 science unlocked that will require Fleet credits and dilithium to buy.
There are also two hanger bays available under the reputation tab.
From the Nukara Reputation you can get -
Tholian Widow fighters, after tier 1 unlocked.
Advanced Tholian Widows, after Tier 3 unlocked.
Elite Tholian Widows after Tier 5 unlocked.
From the Romulan Reputation you can get -
Scorpion fighters after unlocking Tier 1
Advanced Scorpion fighters after unlocking Tier 3
Elite Scorpion fighters after unlocking Tier 5
All of them require you to select and fill in a project to get them that will use ECs, dilithium and marks to get.
Finally there are the Swarmer hanger bays available from the Fleet Spire, they also come in standard, Advanced and Elite versions and will require and maxed out Spire to get the elite ones they will also require Fleet credits and dilithium to buy.
I would recommend keeping the hanger bay the ship comes with and buying one of each of the ones available at the equipment vendor so you can try them all out and decide which ones you want, especially as some of them are more useful in certain fights then others.
Also the STO wiki (http://sto.gamepedia.com/Carrier_Pets) will list the equipment and abilities they can use.
Note that the Elite Tholian Widows will die really fast due to pulling aggro when using BfaW and the Elite Scorpions will kill themselves when firing high-yield plasma torpedoes.
Scorpions are fighters and thus die quickly, they can dish out some good damage though. Personally, my favourite federation hangar-pets are Callisto and Delta Flyers though.
Presidio is a decent ship. Another very good Option for battlecruisers in particular is the Arbiter, which Comes at the same Price (unless you bought any bundle that includes the ships mentioned). Iirc, the Arbiter has no hangar though, it makes up for it with its way more offensive layout however.
You cannot fly the Hangar-pets. They are part of your ship-gear. Some Hangar-pets are in fact available as playerships, but are mostly in the lobi-store or c-store. Or like the Aquarius (which technically acts as a Hangar-pet), fleet-exclusive.
Personally, I preferred the Avenger-class to any other Starfleet-Cruiser back in the day, and I suppose the Arbiter is just like it but better (it's the T6-version afterall). You get a more mobile cruiser with potentially high forward-facing damage-output (one or two turn-rate-increasing consoles recommended).
The Presidio was not that much to my liking, but that's mostly because it felt like any other big federation-cruiser except it can mount Dual Heavy Cannons (which are often kinda useless without a good turning-rate).
Hangar-pets can be useful, they certainly add damage or in the case of shield-restoring drones they add healing, but unless you have frigates like the Callisto (in a pure carrier), your Hangar-pets will usually quickly die due to a lack of smart pilots and defense. Especially fighters and shuttles don't survive long (except Delta Flyers perhaps).
They are player-ships (small craft). Where to get the Hangar-pets was already pointed out by freightstopper. They are *seperate* purchases.
Example: You buy the Delta Flyer for 400 Zen. You can now claim and use it as your small craft (player shuttle). You will *not* get the hangar-pet-version of it though and still have to purchase one of the available versions for EC, Dilithium or Dilithium and Fleet-credits, depending on rarity and version of it.
So where do you buy the hanger pets from if not from the c store?
No problem.
If you scroll up to freightstopper's post you will have a detailed summary of what hangar-pets there are and where to get them.
No, they aren't.
Tactical Consoles do not buff your pets.
