If you think of it, STO is in a way, a MOBA...
Except it has a storyline... And no PvP...
Well, no PvP styled like a MOBA.
The closest thing might be the PvE queue where you liberate Borg and fight the undine, Borg, and both bosses at once because of its 3-section style.
Also, MOBAs usually have 5 abilities including attacks. STO varies on ship and level.
Although (at least around the low levels,) players have mostly the same abilities and are balensedish (unless you used the C-store)
Also, you don't have to improve your skills on aiming, but instead pressing a bunch of buttons!!! Classic MOBA!
But worst of all, why STO isn't very MOBA-like, is its extreme unbalance in multiplayer.
I just wanted to share this little comparison, I'm not asking STO should switch or anything (unless it means better PvP). I don't even like MOBAs.
What do you think about STO and MOBAs?

The examples you mentioned pretty much qualify for any MMORPG I can think of right now...
WOuld love a MOBA style map though...played fractured space recently, and they did a good job transporting that game concept into space. Could maybe work for STO too.

This idea needs to die in a very painful way.... like people that keep trying to bring PvPeen back into STO
STO still has pvp. It's just irrelevant like it should be. Good for the occasional lolz and that's it.
"He shall be my finest warrior, this generic man who was forced upon me.
Like a badass I shall make him look, and in the furnace of war I shall forge him.
he shall be of iron will and steely sinew.
In great armour I shall clad him and with the mightiest weapons he shall be armed.
He will be untouched by plague or disease; no sickness shall blight him.
He shall have such tactics, strategies and machines that no foe will best him in battle.
He is my answer to cryptic logic, he is the Defender of my Romulan Crew.
He is Tovan Khev... and he shall know no fear."

IE a game centered on PvP, and with little if any PvE.

um if STO turned MOBA I and many in my fleet would leave it instantly.

More like Overwatch, Team Fortress 2, Paragon, League of Legends, Paladins, and other similar games. Essentially, you are forced to pick a certain character with their own fixed abilities and fight other players in team PvP. So just by looking at the enemy character, you can figure out what they are capable of.
First off, a MOBA is focused on pvp a.k.a. serious business , not a pve dumb noob-proof grinding spamfest MMO like STO is now.
As a matter of fact, in a MOBA PvE , although easier than PvP, is still coded in a way that offers you a challenge and is a nice testing ground for new heroes ( ships in your language) .
You don't just spam-press a bunch of bazillion buttons like you do here : you have a hero, with a specific role and a specific set of abilities which gotta be used carefully at the right moment possibly in conjunction with your team or you are doomed ( mana issues, enemies hitting you when you are vulnerable and so on ).
Undine Assault and the Dyson battlezone are the closest ... "thing" to a Moba lol
At least, this is what I know from playing a little bit of League of Legends and Smite and a lot more of Heroes of the Storm.
