Tos fighters.

Would anyone else be into that as well?

A TOS'ified Delta Flier or a TOS Romulan fighter or something.

I'd loooove to see something like this
nGpLzgw.jpg

Maybe a new, 25th century fighter, but with the classic style, a temporal fighter if you will?

The art above I made with Ptrope's delightful Dart air craft and his warp pod add on pack.

The old Star Fleet Battles game had federation fighters that looked like F-14 Tomcats. Sorta.

Matt Jefferies wanted to make the original shuttle crafts curved and rounded, but never got to do so. So, technically, it could work. Also, even a cool, TOS style skin for the fighters we got now would be fine. :)

I don't like the concept of "fighters" in Star Trek, but your model doesn't look too bad, actually. Maybe if you could colour it in all TOS hull with a red stripe along the sides?

That could be coming in the next Fleet Holdin' a TOS Fighter. lol
The Rising of the Delta is the best expansion ever, and people love it to death because it is a good day to die in the endless struggle for supremacy of your own conviction. (A spin off of the Delta Rising is the best expansion ever and all the players love it.)

Except that fighters didn't exist in TOS - the smallest vessels we saw were unarmed shuttlecraft. Space fighters weren't introduced to Trek until DS9, possibly because Rule of Cool didn't overrule Actual Physics on this topic until then.

This is the only canon Starfleet fighter, and even this is a converted courier.

Everything else is a shuttle or runabout. In a franchise with highly manoeuvrable ships like the Defiant or the B'Rel, there is no need for fighters. In TOS even less so. Ships fought (as they also did in TNG) by parking up a few metres from each other and shooting until one ran away or was destroyed.

Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though.
JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

I'm with you (as you know) on that one, but STO clearly has fighters and in STOverse they are also something super advanced and Starfleet was jealous of the Klingon advanced tactics of fighter combat for so long that they invested so much resources for a huge "supercarrier" thingy pig-2.gif

I believe the first 'fighters' were in TNG during Wesley's time in Starfleet Academy. I remember the episode played out like a case of Matlock where they were doing maneuvers and one of them had problems (might have died or been grievously injured, hard to remember as they all seemed like red shirts save for Wesley) and the rest of the episode revolved around studying the clues to find out what went wrong and bring the guilty party to task. Either way, I think the idea of a TOS era carrier with fighters wouldn't be that far-fetched, if a bit made up given how the series was always about Kirk losing his shirt between forward rolls and ship-to-ship combat between static ship images.

Append: TIE Interceptors fired from the wingtips, not the nodes under the cockpit.

Or just go play SWTOR if you want buzzing little fighters...

the starfighter expansion is abandonware... devs dropped it the second they released it and the community a month later

^ I played the starfighter expansion in SWTOR (when I was still playing that game) as a Republic player. I kept at it, practiced hard, and learned a lot, but still, all I did was die. Every time I turned around, some Sith player would blow me out of the sky, and it just wasn't fun anymore. Eventually I got to the point where I wasn't dying AS much and I could actually shoot down a Sith fighter now and then, but by that time I had lost interest in it.

Bringing it back to Star Trek, I wouldn't mind having starfighters in the game, if they're done right. I like to take my Delta Flyer out for a spin once in a while.

I think the Shuttle Weekend always proves to be quite popular. I mean... Fleet Alert with a team of 20 shuttles...

Also always fun to bust out the Star Fox for that event. :D
