R&D Promotion Packs on the Exchange

Be observant at which ones they are as someone has posted about a half a dozen cheaper than the rest but they are for the Shesar and not the TOS T6 Constitution. Right click to determine. Also the Shesar has a different 'icon' in the upper left corner of the box. Since I started writing this a few more have popped in there.

    Orly?
Don't you just love when people do this kind of sleazy thing.

It's like one time on ESD, I asked if anyone would be willing to trade 90 Superior Ground upgrade tech for my 100 Superior beam tech, they were equal value on the exchange at the time, but I was offering +10 just so I could get a quick response.

So this one lowlife messages me and says "sure, lets do it !"
I go to meet him in his zone, open a trade window, put in my 100 Superior Beam Tech, and the loser slots in 90 "green" quality ground upgrade tech...
I swear if I could've I would've punched him in the face for trying to pull a fast one. Well not really...but its very frustrating that there are people out there who would stoop to such a sleazy level.

I'm like are you slow or something ? I said SUPERIOR upgrade tech.
Then he acts all innocent, like he had made a genuine mistake. Anyway no harm done, I cancelled the trade.

But had I not double checked the trade window, lowlife would have made a steal of a deal.
And I'll bet every EC I have, he would have disappeared as soon as the trade had gone through. And not done the right thing and returned them.
So lesson is to be very cautious when making trades with people online. Or even using the exchange. They'll always be some loser trying to pull this kind of thing.
I learned this the hard way in D2 trade rooms. The stuff people would try to swing there would be hilarious if it was so blatant in trying to rip people off.

Was playing another game, and a certain card was released, very sought after, and there was an exchange in that game as well.
Some people were posting the older-crappier-versions of that card (which looked VERY similar) on the exchange for the same price as the new one. Hoping people would make the mistake and take their piece of junk card for the price of the newer-much better-version.
Man, that stuff really gets under my skin.

But thanks for the heads up, was thinking of picking up a few promo packs. Ill be on the watch for this type of bait and switch.

There's nothing "sleazy" about it. It's not the players' fault Cryptic gave all the promo boxes the same name.

Sure its sleazy, its like trying to sell a Kit car GT400 for the price of an original GT400.
I mean, sure, at the end of the day its the players fault if they don't look to make sure...
But doesn't mean we have to celebrate "There's a sucker born every min" mentality. And try to rip people off at every opportunity.

It's not possible to sell anything on the exchange "as" anything. Cryptic gave those boxes the same name, there's nothing players selling them can do about it.

Sure, but they could try and price them accordingly. :P

A Sheshar promo pack is not selling for the same amount as a Connie promo pack at the current moment.
    That's all I'm saying.
And listing them at current Connie promo pack prices is disturbing.
Sure, it's possible someone does not know this and is completely clueless as to the current state of prices on different promo packs, but I highly doubt it.
Seems more likely to me that someone is being opportunistic and trying to off their devalued sheshar packs for considerably more profit then they are worth. Due to the popularity of the current Connie promo packs.
They're hoping someone buys them in error for the same price as a connie promo pack. That is at the very least unethical.

It also creates more people who act this way, as the buyer may turn around and do the same thing to get rid of the unwanted items. It becomes a vicious cycle. Eye for Eye mentality becomes the norm. That's not a healthy relationship between buyers and sellers.

Great, just give away all the ways to make money off promo packs.

A Sheshar promo pack is selling at whatever price someone is willing to buy one at. Unless you're regularly selling them, you don't have any factual data on that.

Of course they are cheaper if listed first supposing Ascend is your normal sort order. No news there. We have a bunch of new people in this game and others who may not be overly observant. Most of those are looking for a chance at a T6 TOS Constitution, you know because it was the logical thing to get and they were 'thinking like a Vulcan' ©®.

Those Sheshar Promotion Packs were usually more expensive. To make those people aware to be observant of which Pack is which and how to identify them correctly was the reason for the Thread.

Whether you believe that they suddenly got cheaper because there was a groundswell of a lack of interest in that Ship and weren't moving at that previous price or because they weren't moving and sellers saw an opportunity to finally sell them by embedding them with the Constitution R&D Promotion Packs is entirely in hands of the reader.

If that was the purpose, you could have skipped the whole price comparison and cascading ebil seller conspiracy theory antics and just done an FYI to LOOK at the icon in the corner of each promotion pack as there are several versions.

Not the purpose at all as I said exactly what you mentioned in the OP to determine which Pack was which. How to identify. Conspiracy theories were expounded by posters to the Thread.
