These things are called assault weapons (i.e. phaser pulsewave assault mk v), but look like rifles rather than the typical minigun style assault weapons.
As far as Captain ground traits, are they boosted by assault training or by rifle training?

Yea,no tool tip info for them on console as far as I can tell. Being "shotguns", I find they work really well for fabrication engineers, and the repulsion helps keep bad guys away from my generators and turrets.

actually there is you just got to be in the character or inventory screen. or at least xbox has em. they are fun. I'm rather disppointed my xbox characters are never going to feel the joy of an actual shotgun.

Pulsewaves are Assault weapons, thus boosted by Assault Training trait.
You can also test this by equipping a Pulsewave (or any weapon, in that matter) and then comparing tooltip Damage/DPS value with and without having trait slotted.
