Now, let me say that I currently have 17 characters that I run this PvE event on DAILY.

What sane person would do that for $1 worth of dil at the end?

    Correction... $1.25. :)

Yeah, I have to agree that if phase 1 is completed, then phase 2 to start momentarily without having to wait and do nothing (I actually fell asleep waiting once at like 1:30am).

The spawning rifts is a problem too if they are too close to each other. Not sure if it was my imagination, but several times I believe I had the option to close as many as 4 nearby rifts. That is generally impossible to do since sooner rather than later something is going to appear.

If you buy $100 worth of zen during the 15% bonus sale, with the charge bonus it's $1 :)

    Tl/dr.

I think the tl;dr version of this is that the OP wants the devs to modify the event so that it's less likely for rift closing to be disrupted because of weapons fire.

One trick is to close the rift that's most distant from the station first. If you leave it open while closing a nearer one ships are more likely to go after you.

Another trick is to bubble yourself with temp hitpoints, like pilot skill + APBeta or some consoles.

Or buy zen unless you need the marks :)

Ive found the easiest way to close rifts is to let an escort draw aggro then decloak and close. If necissary, help escort finish the mobs, repeat.

I can certainly relate to the OP with respect to the "nightmare" scenario, although I don't recall seeing this happen in the normal queues. Advanced queues seem to start here, which is why I quit playing them altogether. Granted, I've never been a DPS'er, but even a strong build is quickly overwhelmed by the unrestricted rift spawn of advanced.

I have nearly equal numbers of Eng, Sci, and Tac captains, all of which have their own advantages in prevailing over Mirror scum. Wherever possible, I make use of my Nimbus pirates, fleet support and/or photonic fleets to distract the rift spawn, in addition to sensor bouys, deployable turrets, and aceton emitters. Singularity Manipulation can also provide enough of a cloak (on non-Romulan ships) to gain enough time to close a rift even adjacent to enemy NPC's.

Nothing is better than teamwork, and thankfully, most of the queues I've been in lately have gotten pretty consistent with teaming up. Still, there are the DPS dreads who insist on wiping out half the map on their own, and leaving the rest of us waiting for phase 2. (Why don't they run the advanced queues?)

    OP:

    Sounds like your rant's two-fold:
Determine when there is no rift activity and move to second stage, or open more rifts.

This was once the case - clear every rift on the map at once, move on to the second stage instantly. Which led to "the mission being completed in too fast a fashion", and the flat out timegate was put in with a heavy hand.

Sadly, this one ain't going away.
if the mission dumps out two dozens ships on one side and another two dozen on the other side with rifts overlapping. It makes it almost impossible to close rifts and prevent further enemy and the starbase is quickly overwhelmed. Now if you have the Uber players with thei one shot killships, this can sometimes be handled. But if you are an average team it makes things impossible.

One of my biggest pet peeves is the timing. If I am taking on a rift on my own as an average player. By the time I destroy those ships on ONE rift, the next squad appears and you do not get a chance to close.

Huh? Can't quite figure out the... issue... here...

If your ship's not "geared enough" to be wiping a spawn with enough time to close the rift before the next spawn, either your tactics are lacking or your not "geared enough" for Advanced.

There is no shame in lack of gear. That's why they make normal, after all...

If your complaining about a lack of teamwork in what's billed as a "multiplayer" online game that actually throws a bunch of people onto a team, well, that's a whole 'nother story that can't be addressed easily on a forum and/or by the Devs.

Because as has been mentioned above, and I've "lived through" this - a "team" can clear a "nightmare scenario" where there's like a dozen rifts in extremely close proximity - tank aggroing and tanking, escorts vaping targets heading to the station, sciences closing rifts.

Of course, because we let it get this bad, by the time the area was clear, another one had formed and wiped the station.

And did I mention the best run I saw was one where four of the five players "winged" with each other and the fifth was competent / capable enough to handle a few rifts solo (not on a steady basis, mind you, cause I was the solo rift killer, but when my skills were all off cooldown I could usually wipe a "Command Cruiser wing" and still close the rift).

It was about the 3 minutes left mark when we lost the base on this one - and that was because one pair had gone onto "base duty" without really telling anyone they weren't working rifts, and their area got to be one of them nightmare scenerios - that we cleared out with an unspoken selection of a strategy...
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

    TL:DR

If you're doing it for the dil, much better to grind CCA. Our supreme queue of speedy completion is so fast now even the events lose to it. Except the CCA event of course, which is the stuff of grinder legends.

(its not inconsistent at all either)

Perversely the reward of that horrible mirror event was an admiralty card. An admiralty card for a system that spares one of having to do these horrible events anymore.

My advice to anybody dedicated to STO is to acquire ships for this system by any means possible. Managing to keep those campaigns rolling and tending to 2-3 times a day ensures maximum refinement capacity. Under its current rewards the admiralty is the #1 ticket out of the grind in sto.

Since I reached my break-even point of ship cards vs. log-in behavior some time ago I could gladly leave this year’s mirror event out. I judge the price for this card to be too high.
