Console controls disappointing.

Console controls are disappointing. I can get over most of the controls, but there are two things I can't get over. First I have to click in and hold L3 every single Fn time I need to redistribute shield power? Wut? Have you people played your own game? Do you realize how often this happens and how uncomfortable that is? I've played about 6ish hours and my left thumb is downright tired. This wouldn't be too big a deal if maybe we could set it to hotkeys. Maybe I could set the 4 directions in the L1 menu?

Second, targeting is space is ridiculously bad. Pressing R3 (again, using these buttons is annoying) to target could definitely feel smoother. It feels "janky" right now, and is hard to select the target you want when there are many targets. This too wouldn't be so annoying if the game tried a little harder to fire at the target you want to shoot. I'll have my target reticle over the ship I want to fire on. I press R2 and... it shoot off at some target that's not even on my screen. This happens FAR too often.

I've been holding off playing on PC since this was announced. I'm extremely disappointed in it. It did bring me back to the PC version I guess, but I really wanted to play on new servers where everyone is starting over again. It's too bad the devs couldn't figure the controls out.

You're going from a keyboard with a hundred buttons to a controller with limited buttons. I think they actually did a pretty good job at the conversion.

They did a good job of porting it over to console, but i have also encountered the same problems. I also do not like the view distance as i find i have to reset it every time i transition to either space or ground, it would be better if it could be locked to a specific distance via the options.

@loganus1701 - Agreed. I think being able to manually zoom in/out via a scroll bar would be great as well instead of having preset distances.

I guess we're all going to have our pet peeves about the controls. I wonder of they'll let us customize in a later update. Mine is the up/down movement in space; I want to reverse that. Space controlled targeting and shield redistribution would be good too.

Looks like a later update will indeed be improving this - there are a number of options which are simply greyed out in the UI currently. They should, logically, become available later. However, they did have something very like a hard deadline - there would have been even more criticism if the console launch had not happened in time for Trek's 50th anniversary. Therefore, I'm willing to cut them a little slack on that. For now.

The camera zoom lockout would be a deal killer for me.

My only issue so far that makes it unplayable for me is the broken Y Axis Inversion when in Space. No matter how I have it set in options, it doesn't invert. Other than that, I had been getting used to the controls. Really need to be able to invert that Y axis in space though if I am ever going to enjoy playing it.

Y-axis inversion works, I'm using it.

Yeah, I realize that it "works" properly on ground, just not in space. In space, it is very wrong in how it handles both thumbsticks at the same time. I'm constantly skewing in the wrong direction. It's just not right. There needs to be seperate inversion options for both thumbstiks, not just the left one.
