Playable Terran Empire Faction?

in Star Trek Online General Discussion
STO is seriously lacking a playable "Bad guy" faction and nothing can get more evil than the Terran empire. So going by the gut feeling that KDF and ROM are going to be rolled into the fed ranks soon, does anyone think that they will make the mirror fed playable?

    Doubtful... It seems to me that they are leaning towards consolidation of the current faction lineup into one. It would makes things easier (cheaper) for them to do this... which surprised me about them creating a separate AoY faction. It was probably cheaper for them to do things that way rather than make alterations to the current Fed faction. Still, makes you wonder what's in store for STO's future.

    We had playable bad guys or at least we did until Cryptic gave up on the 1st ones the KDF and then followed suit with the RSE by making everyone best buddies and all new missions are now cross-faction. Last ship pack in the C-Store was cross faction.

    So I wouldn't hold your breath for a playable bad guy faction as the 2 historically agonistic Empires towards the Feds already in game aren't seeing any development. I can't see them making another faction to fill that void.
    I mean even the AOY faction aren't a really a faction they're more of an alternative starting tutorial for Feds with different beam up and tricorder effects. They don't even have Unique faction specific ships.

    I think we may eventually see a "rebels from the Mirror Universe" origin for the Federation about as robust as the TOS origin -- a small set of race choices, a few missions to get you started, a couple of Mirror ships not already in lock boxes.

    Might be a good way of introducing playable (mirror) Cardassian Captains, actually...

    Oh yes please, but I had an idea.
    If your mirror captain is of Starfleet,KDF or Romulan origin , they have access to their vanilla faction ships with their respective mirror paint schemes and prefixes

      There's no point.
      We already have terran outfits and terran ships. The only thing missing is for existing lockbox ships to unlock the I.S.S. Prefix on their prime counterparts.

      Now that would be interesting. I doubt it'll ever happen, but I'd be all for it if it does.

      TOS characters can use C-store costume pieces without the paid unlock. And there's still enough Federation ships you could find a 1st through 5th tier ship that hasn't been copied yet to give them at least as many new ships as the AoY folks got.

      With AoY, Cryptic basically laid the ground work for alternate origins to the existing factions. Its a tool they can and probably even should iterate on. "Mirror Universe Rebel" lets them being in some long sought after races as playable, leverages existing assets very well, and takes a shockingly SMALL amount of new assets. The only other options that come close for easy money/high RoI would be a Kelvin Timeline Origin or a Star Trek Discovery origin, and the later's iffy only because it might be all but indistinguishable from the AoY content. And there's tons of opportunity to better flesh out the KDFs vassal states with Orion, Gorn, and Nausicaan mini-factions/origins. Or go through the Romulan content and wire in a little new text/dialogue for a true Reman play-through.

      Whatever's wrong with KDF? Blow up more Fed ships, vaporize more Feds on the run, queue more doffing that deals in contraband, slave trade, attacks on outposts, arena battles to the death, bribe officials, plant evidence, and more ship executions because reasons. Then play queues and commit more pixel-genocide. Make a KDF-aligned Rom, pick up an I.R.W.-prefix capable warbird, and repeat the process this time in the name of the Tal Shiar.

      Mirror Storyline!

      ~Have us slaughter the galaxy of all those who dear to oppose the Federation Terran Empire. ... so in short ... just throw in some Terran logos and the odd insults to or from npcs and boom ... done.

      Not another merge the KDF thread....even if it isn't. They can't merge KDF because you start off at war with Fed and there are a few STF'S and a complete storyline where you fight the Fed. Jeez!

      The only thing they can do is alter the permissions for later arcs to allow cross-faction teaming.......however there are those in the KDF that still bear ill-will towards the Fed, and would like to end their pityful candy-coated existence :smile:

      They can and in the storyline, they pretty much have. The factions are origin stories, all come together at some point. All that's left in the endgame is counterproductive sales restrictions and a different face/voice in the mission briefings.

      Only if Cryptic decides to do a "Terran Empire Defection Event". Basically, it will be a 3rd "Fed faction" where you create a Terran Empire character that will decide to defect to the Prime Universe by level 10 where you would then go through the same story missions like all other Federation characters.

      If you want story missions for a Terran Empire Faction that level will level up a Terran Empire character from level 1 to level 60, then there is no way in hell that is going to happen since that would mean creating basically 11.5 seasons worth of missions for a new faction.

      I dont personally see the need for this faction nor want it.... But the best you would get if Cryptic decided to do it would be a mini faction like AOY where you get 5 missions in the mirror universe explaining why you end up in the prime universe as a spy in the federations ranks and from that point on all is the same just like AOY.
