Are the upgraded visuals/lighting effects coming to the PC version as well?
I am sure that those with higher end PC's would appreciate an upgrade like that. Do not feel like starting a new account on a console to enjoy them. Of course, they should be on a toggle, so that everyone has the option depending on their hardware to disable them.

They've already said PC IS getting them.
Or if they broke into our homes and murdered our pets. We'd hate that.
Luckily, neither is going to happen. Spot and Mr. Whiskers are safe! ( ... FOR NOW. )
HAHAH, yep! MOAR lens flare NOW please!
People can judge this for themselves. Personally, there's absolutely no question that the new engine is a big improvement over the old (technically or aesthetically.)
Here, I have example. They are what we use when we want to substantiate a point.

I'm sure that across the scale of an MMO you will find at least one thing after the update where you prefer the old look (in spite of the technical aspect.) But never fear, if it becomes a problem you can always turn down the lighting settings and stick with retro-STO (low-end machines/settings won't be forced to render the new lighting engine).
Notable missions: Apex [AEI], Gemini [SSF], Trident [AEI], Evolution's Smile [SSF], Transcendence
Looking for something new to play? I've started building Foundry missions again in visual novel form!
Sadly I have to agree here. The 'Before' shots (in my eyes) look sharper, have more blue/grey tones, and have a more 'interiors with shadows' look. This is all, IMO, more future/space/technology oriented.
The 'After' shots generally look fuzzier, have more brown/yellow/gold tones, and everything seems to be lit from all angles. Many items appear to have a glow of their own. This is more of an 'old West, outside, in bright daylight, with a less sharp focus' look overall.
In fact, in game, I can pretty much simulate a lot of the 'new graphics' look simply by turning my brightness up 25-30% and changing the color balance of my monitor. So, hope they aren't gonna say "OMG we put weeks and weeks of work into this" when it's like a 2-setting tweak.
I guess maybe the guy who is designing the changes has dim vision or needs better glasses. Or possibly a new monitor.
I certainly hope they have some sort of 'Old graphics/New graphics' selection available to us.
Agreed with this, especially the 'glow of their own' part. It's simply too bright... in there, to paraphrase Slamek.
Take for example Hassan's stronghold, one of the first Before and After examples; that place looks actually a lot better without so many light sources. Or the Elachi station interiors. There's almost nothing creepy about them anymore if they're so well lit.
I don't see how hazy shots with a washed out look and loss of detail can be called an upgrade.
Take a look at this screenshot.
https://s32.postimg.io/e548ufe6r/Graphics.jpg The after shot in both areas is far worse. Lots of background detail lost, overly bright. Most of the new screenshots are as bad as this. Aesthetically the graphics look far worse after the upgrade. Most people seem to be in agreement with me going by the other threads.
EDIT:
When you are in the star base the shuttle on the other side of the room shouldn't have a blur around it and there shouldn't be a fog haze all over.
Can barely play at the minute because all the graphics settings have been set to the maximums and if I so much as click on any of them the game crashes or freezes up.
New lighting?! When is this supposed to happen!? Love to see it!
I prefer the darkness of some of the original shots, but there is much more lighting detail and depth to the images in the new ones. To me, the original images feel somewhat lacking in atmosphere by comparison, and somewhat stale.
Looking forward to it

'What Lies Beneath' needs a bit of a lighting enhancement. I really don't like the red lighting on KDF ships.

It's a whole new look for a game I've been playing for six and a half years now.
I'd love to see some comparison shots between the PC & Console versions when this all goes live.

Well they aren't going to change it just for you.
It's pretty much this hard to keep just one timeline intact. ♪
If the update looks bad on your pc it might have something to do with your monitor. My PC is not phenom in its own right but it can hold its own. So I popped on over to tribble to see what the fuss was about. I have to say i am very pleased with what I saw. The lighting looks more natural and there is waay less of the DC comic movie Emo darkness that seems to plague this game. If it comes out off and you PC and handle it then your monitor needs replacing.
