Stop BOP Tos ground weaponry.

The Twin Phasers and blue TOS phaser type weaponry is BOE. something all of the TOS stuff that drops should be. I hate seeing cool drops like Phaser type 2 Wide Mk XII [Dmg]x3 and it only being BOP. that seems like some sort of punishment.

I think TOS manuals would be cool to see again too. but I'm mainly only talking about the ground weapons. although it is hard to find Mk XII TOS photon torps that aren't kelvin.

Even worse are the TOS weapons that are not BOP or even BOE but are BOU, bind on upgrade. Imagine how pissed , errr, upset I was after transferring my weapons to my KDF toon that has lvl20 R&D so I had a better upgrade chance, spending several million EC grabbing all the upgrades/catalysts, etc, only to find that those weapons are now bound to my KDF toon, who has NO interest in running around with a Federation weapon.

Even a notation about the items being BOU would have been nice, but no.... and then I found that the nice twin phaser beams I really like will also bind to character on upgrade, didn't even have to actually upgrade them, after hitting level 50, I put one in the upgrade slot just to check and bam ! ! ! MK XII bound to character without even hitting "upgrade".

On the other side of the fence, we call that potential. You're using the weapon as a way to constantly remind yourself of the GLORIOUS BATTLE where you severed the hand of the Fed scum. If you look closely, there's still some dried blood...

I am unfamiliar about the bind on upgrade. I have a twin on the exchange that i somehow made ultra rare.

That might be a bug. Because I've never had anything bind after upgrading.

The only thing that may come to mind about Binding on Upgrade would be those Temporal Reputation Chroniton Torpedoes that erroneously came out for about a week as unbound before they fixed it. Reputation stuff is always supposed to be Bind on Pickup.

Perhaps the Upgrade triggered it to revert to its correct state. I have no direct experience with that but that is all I can think of.

I guess you never rolled a kdf toon then because there is a scene in the early levels where YOUR KDF TOON summons his/her STARSHIP to end a GROUND combat melee between YOU and the NPC's.

The npc's quickly realize their hand weapons just became useless because your starship is aiming its main weapon arrays directly near them.

No loot drop should be bind on pickup. That's just needlessly restrictive for people who pay attention to what they're doing.
  • arionisaarionisa Member Posts: 1,421 Arc User
I agree with hanover2 about loot drops, loot drops should be BoE only and never BoP. Then again, the twin phasers in question are not from loot drops, they come on the 23c connie you get from the Temporal agent starter pack. In Cryptics defense, most items that come with ships are bound other than the plain jane gear and these are rare CrtH/Dmg beams. So, based on previous experience they rightfully should have been bound from the start, and if they had been, it wouldn't have bothered me in the least.

What bothers me about it is that with the ground gear, I spent several million EC buying the upgrade materials for the sole purpose of having my TOS toon having a really nice TOS weapon to use, and only after upgrading find the weapon is now bound to character. If it had changed to account bound or even BoE I wouldn't complain, but that is sadly not the case. Thankfully there are enough people who didn't want them that I can get replacements off the exchange .... and eventually upgrade them once my TOS toon finally reaches a high enough R&D skill to justify the expense/gamble of hoping for good results. I just hope no one else makes my mistake and upgrades one using a toon other than the one they plan on using it with.....

And a new wrinkle, it appears as though the developers have "fixed" the twin beams. I just went in to one of my lower level AoY toons and the twin beams I like so much are now showing as character bound even though I have never moved them to the upgrade slot on that toon. So ltminns probably has that one right, they should have been bound from the start and "reverted" to the proper state when I put them in the upgrade slot ... on a toon I didn't plan on using them with. Again, no big deal there, I just reclaim the ship on the proper toons, grab the beams and discharge it again.
    LTS and loving it.

The ground weapons are certainly bind on upgrade, but I think the space weapons are safe.

After only three days you're already complaining that they're doing nothing about it? It took Cryptic 11 (yes eleven) months to fix the Tholian red alert. That's the timeframe you need to base your expectations on.

I can see the TOS Training manuals being 23rd c exclusive, but it's so incredibly unfair to only give a player one shot at them, and being completely locked out from obtaining them if they forget and move on to the 25th century.
At the very least we need to be able to return to the 23rd century ESD.

Things like this do not get fixed until Thursdays when the game normally gets patched. That is assuming it is a high priority. There are other things Cryptic needs to fix in the game so this is likely to be an extremely low priority. Check back in 2017.

I just had a thought... Remember how in the AOY missions, Starbase K-13 got sucked into that portal or whatever it was, and Daniels says, "Don't worry, it survives," or something like that? I was wondering if maybe Cryptic might make K-13 re-appear in our "present" time (2410s) in STO so we could go there and get some TOS-era items. I noticed that K-13 is still there by Deneva after you enter the 25th century, so maybe that'll be opened to us later on.

k-13 as a fleet holding? I'd be cool with that.

While I agree that having stuff Bind-on-Pick-up when it isn't a special mission reward should be changed, right now I'd prefer if the white wide-beam phaser pistols that drop in the 'battle of caleb IV' were actually able to be sold instead of having to discard them, gets annoying when there's at least four from every mission run.

Not to mention the annoyance that is being unable to sell things for their value, there's no good reason to reduce the price by half or more.
  • ikonn#1068 ikonn Member Posts: 1,451 Arc User
Yeah, Cryptic "nerfed" the selling prices of many items to vendors over a year or so ago. Evidently they thought we were making too much money from loot drops.
