~YOU & Starship Traits.

What do you do?
On any particular single toon do you master every single T6 ship to get the trait, including event ships, and ships that toon doesnt like or fly, essentially farming all the starship traits that toon has access to.....?

Or, does your toon only collect the starship traits that are interesting or applicable to him/her or role? Leaving irrelevant traits on ships unmastered?

I had the idea or compulsion to just grind out every single trait i have access to, which is plenty, on my AoY toon, even the irrelevant ones. But im seeing all the trouble and time it would take and now switching my thinking on this. Now im probably going to only grind out the ones i find interesting/relevant to my toons role. I dont want to grind out a bunch of science oriented traits ill never use anyway, or ones for carrier pets for instance since he is not into carriers.

Just wanted know what others do.

    On my main toon i sort of unlock everything i can get my hands on. On alts, I really only do what i need.

      I never buy ships for their traits. So I never really get that feeling of "Ok. Got the ship. Time to grind for this trait and drydock/discharge it when I'm done. Blehhh." The trait is something that I eventually get as I'm flying the ship and having fun wth it. The exception of course is with free ships from events. For example, I never liked the look of the Krenim sci vessel from the anniversary, but I wanted the trait for any char that uses feedback pulse. I definitely wasn't looking to grind it on every alt. Lucky for me, I only played with that skill on my main. It was only a couple of red alerts and I was done. Simple.

      In other words, yes. I only grab traits on purpose if it suits whatever build I'm going for. If it's a trait that suits me and it's on a ship that I generally enjoy flying, then I go back to not worrying about it and getting it along the way as I fly.

      I only get the ones I will use, like AHOD, Reciprocity, Battle Ready.

      Mostly? I ignore the starship traits effect. I mean unlocking it on the ship your AV will keep using is awesome. But I don't hunt for them as a rule. Though my science AV in a T5U Wells is unlocking the Krenim effect so there will be a ship trait. But that is pretty much my exception.

      I do prefer to fly a ship with a trait to unlock, if the toon in question has any (which except for my main, most of the time they do). I wouldn't describe it as "farming." More like...gotta fly something, might as well fly something that gives me something extra.

      Don't particularly care what traits they are, either. Game's easy.

      Bolded part is true enough. I mean, I was playing the other day and was wondering why the mobs were a little harder than normal to take out and found out when I checked my traits that they had been cleared out, for the most part. That's how easy it was. Traits aren't necessary, they just make things a little easier.
      Now a LTS and loving it.
      Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
      I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything. :D

      Same, I just buy the iconic ships I like. If it happens to have a good trait that's just a bonus. There is no reason to have them anyways, unless for boasting rights.​​

      If it's a character you're going to play all serious like and you are going to care about performance (and for me that's maybe 3 of my characters) then I will get specific traits for that character. As they are a part of the build and I will invest the time and resources.

      For the rest? I just get what I get, whenever I get them. Without paying much attention (some traits come from crafting for instance).

      I don't buy/acquire ships for traits- I buy them mainly for utility/purpose, with a secondary focus on aesthetics.

      The ship is a tool to get a job done- "right tool" for the job. The aesthetics? Well, if you're going to be staring at space pixels for extended periods of time, why not enjoy what you're using frequently?

      If it happens to have a trait that's beneficial to me, then it's a bonus I suppose. I think the trait system itself would be a good way for them to remove the ship tiering and allow the ability to choose "enhancements" for ships, in addition to the skill/specialization systems. Such a system would actually pace better with future content releases and reduce the whole "power creep" thing.

      The base hull of a ship is exactly that- but a good captain (skill/specialization) can really make it shine. Add on top of that, chosen ship traits from a list you've acquired (such as hull plating, resists, special attacks), and voila! Now you have a combination that's unique to your own style of play/character. As for aesthetic customization... well, that's a other issue. I'd prefer they didn't lock down "skins" with almost every ship class, but I suppose they have to monetize things somehow. Adding more flavor to materials and other things could improve this as well. Not asking for "Hello Kitty" skins just more variety from the whole dull-grey to white appearances. (yes, you can add color patterns- but not change the ship color completely)

      Sure there's physical limitations but exceeding our limitations and testing them is what most strive to achieve in the game. Therein lies the "challenge" of a game itself. (also why I've never understood the mentality of cheating or easymode- why bother if it's not challenging?)

      Being critical doesn't take skill. Being constructively critical- which is providing alternative solutions or suggestions to a demonstrated problem, however, does.

      I get the ships to have a variety to pick from. The traits are a secondary thing to me.

      It should be noted players were doing well and posting high DPS numbers before we had starship traits. Personally I only get enough to fill out the slots.

      All my ships I'm currently using is T5 and under. I don't tend to buy ships either just for the trait. What traits I get, is to help my character since you can only use so many.

        Like others have suggested, the characters I play harder get prepped harder. I basically have a separate captain for each high-end ship I fly, so they only need one build tailored to that ship. Once they have their core list of Ship Traits for their ship/build, its just a question if I want to goof off, test out something, or a new trait has been introduced I feel better serves the 'hand of cards' they're holding. Otherwise they stay on their dedicated ship.

        (Visually, the Eclipse is probably my favorite Fed ship in the game... pretty much only challenged by the Vengeance. Though I do love my Tal Shiar Adapted Destroyer for my Romulan captain)

        My Captain/ship roster:
        In descending order of care and attention~
        Romulan Warleader (Team DPS) - Tactical Captain (Intel/Pilot). Tal Shiar Adapted Destroyer. Anti-proton cookie cutter + Adapted consoles.
        Federation Guardian (Aggro-magnet) - Engineer Captain (Intel/Strategist). Vengeance Intel Dreadnought. KT weapons + Elite Drones + OP console-polooza. (Formerly Fleet Eclipse with Agony Phaser broadside)
        Federation Warleader - Tactical Captain (Command/Pilot). Tholian Tarantula. Tetryon + Thermionic Torps + Elite Meshweavers. All the Tholian click powers + Team-shared frenzy.
        Federation Chronotactical Warfare - Tactical Captain (Temporal/Command). Annorax. Chronoton Weapons (including lobi set).
        TOS Black Magic - Science Captain (Temporal Agent). Eternal Multi-Mission Science ship. Rep and Crafted Torped-o-rama + Elite fighters. Causal Anchor -> Inverted Repulsors = comedy gold.
        KDF Carrier Commander - Science Captain (Pilot). Narcine Dreadnought Carrier. Phased Biomater Cannons + 2x Elite Mobulai + Xindi Lobi set.
        (Mirror) Romulan Black Magic - Science Captain (Intel). Paradox Science Dreadnought. Agony Phasers + AoE torpedoes. Psych Warfare and Invasive Control Programing. CC lockdown more than direct exotic damage.

        And you really shouldn't underestimate the impact of some traits beyond their obvious DPS potential. Hot Pursuit turn mines from terrible to amazingly (even viciously) good fun, and with it the new Xygon Harasser Mines ship trait (along with phasic artillery passive from Temporal agent) it becomes very entertaining.

        Helmsman is another game-changing trait. I heartily recommend it on any ship that's not a escort. Not only a decent passive turn rate bonus but also a "I need to save my Evasive maneuvers for really clutch plays... no, wait, I don't. I can burn it early and often!"

        Since I’m on the constant endeavor to progress all my 10 toons further (more or less equally) compromises have to be made.
        When it comes to ship traits I only unlock them on demand on the respective toons and I’m done with it.

        The only thing I’m very particular with is the adding of each and every admiralty card opportunity that crosses my way.

        I tend to focus on 2 characters at a time. My real main, and whichever other character I currently hold in favor. Part of focusing on a character is gearing them out and completing all the story missions and at some point grinding out mastery traits. My main always gets the preferred treatment by getting "everything." But whichever alt is currently a "second main" gets basically that same treatment.
        When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.

        When it comes to personal space and ground traits I get them all with each lockbox that is released. As for starship traits, I don't have them all and I will probably never get them all either. So far I have been lucky to like the ships that come with the really good traits. However, there have been times where I actually got a ship solely for its starship trait. I don't do it very often but it has happened. For example, I got the Arbiter ship for the Emergency Weapon Cycle starship trait despite not really flying that ship. I also own the Endeavour (the entire pack) because of the Super Charged Weapons starship trait.

        I just get them as I go. Whether I get them through reputation, crafting, etc, I mostly see them as just a part of the package. Then I just pick and choose based off whatever arbitrary guidelines I'm going by at the time, be it wanting to tank more, wanting more critical damage, roleplaying...

        I primarily buy ships for the ships themselves. However, I decided to purchase the T6 Flagship bundle for the science and tactical traits. So far I have only purchased it for the KDF faction, but during the next ship sale I will purchase the bundle for the Fed faction. I will purchase the Romulan T6 bundle next year since I need to spread out my purchase (by the end of this year I am on course to purchase 10 or 12 ships) and I only have 2 Romulan captains.

        I try to have each of my 10 captains fly different ships, but that is a bit impossible because the KDF and RR factions lack dedicated faction specific science ships. I prefer to fly C-Store ships vs. event ships, so when I get around to purchasing the T6 Eternal both my KDF and RR science captains will be flying that ship

        I only bother with ship traits that look like they'll benefit my build or come from ships I really enjoy flying. Similarly, I only buy ships that I really want to fly; a T6 Sovereign will probably be my next and last purchase unless something really amazing comes along (maybe even with equivalent ships for the other factions). I don't have many T6 ships, mostly event ships whose traits are very specific, so my ship trait slots are usually filled with stuff from specializations and the Delta Recruit reward trait.

        I tend to switch ships and play styles quite often and thus make sure i have every trait at my disposal.
        This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

        Depends on the ship and what i want htat char for. for example if i want to use a carrier, i might run the t6's carriers an HEC's to get their pet related traits.

        if im an escort, i'll do things like the t6 tac escort for its scatter volley boost, ect. if i want to tank, pick up the guardian trait. all depends on the type of playstyle i want for that char.

        I usually stick with traits from missions or event/c-store ships I happen to own. But I only ever unlock those relevant or at least usable on the build a character runs.

        If the Trait from the ship looks interesting or there is a lot of positive feed back about it here and on Reddit, I'll try for it. But most of them I don't get excited over. They are what used to be referred to in my boardgame days as "Chrome" (Advanced Squad Leader FTW!). Nice to have and somewhat beneficial but not required.

        All my characters have at least two ships they use most of the time and they have those traits. When I get a new ship I tend to try it on several characters before finding just the right match. A few also unlock traits that are key for their build if I have the ship already. I don't buy traits.

        I fly it until I max out mastery. If I don't like it after that, it goes to Dry Dock.
