I just don't believe any of the stories about being able to manipulate the RNG or that nonsense.
To be able to do so on a reasonably certain level so that your investments weren't just wasted you'd need to be able to link direct to the servers and have almost instant reaction to open or not. Add in that nearly everyone suffers from lag of some sort and that even millisecond delays in net speed will seriously mess up your commands arriving at the right time I seriously doubt there's anything special to it. The game is working from a server in one part of the world and the data is bounced all over the place to get to/from his machine. Tiny delays in net traffic can seriously mess up real world financial transactions, and they are done using top of the line gear, i doubt he's got some special backdoor to the server.
There's just way to many variables and bits of the puzzle/code that he just won't have access to for him to have any idea how to manipulate the RNG or outwit it.
In my opinion he's just one of a minority of players who have way to much time and disposable income on their hands and has blown thousands on £/$'s on the game but tries to make it sound like he's not addicted to the whole thing by sounding like he's got some super-secret system.
The fact he's openly admitting to selling to those gold-seller scum bags shows to me he's not worth the attention. Sure he's bankrolling the game to some extent but only because he clearly has no idea of the true value of money and thinks blowing that amount of money on a game it sensible.
I called this as an EXPLOIT to the highest levels and if there is any community manager here or DEV around better take the lesson and change the RNG timing for these boxes.
There is always a way to EXPLOIT anything in this game and a human mind willing to spend ANY resources (time or money) to get the to end goal. It's great for the exploiter but don't you guys realize it is a disservice to all the rest of us. If this is not an exploit not sure what else might be.
I have been here long enough to testify to the fact that you do see same players selling same ships over and over again.
It really all depends on what Cryptic uses as the seed for the pseudo-random number generator.
'But to be logical is not to be right', and 'nothing' on God's earth could ever 'make it' right!'

If this was a Vegas casino and the person was as blatant about their theft, you can be sure something would be done. Cryptic might not care. I was wondering why the Kelvin Connie kept going down in price, way lower than the others ever had, and even lower than the Lobi ships. Sure it could be just lots of people opening boxes, or it could be this Braveheart guy dumping them on the exchange as he said he was doing in the reddit post from last night. Which of course has been deleted. Wonder why.

Yeah, not like it's a studied problem or anything.
Random number generator attack
But I'm sure on something as solidly coded as STO, it cannot ever happen.
